KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Corban University Women's Golf team opened play at the Oregon Tech Fall Invitational on Monday morning, battling through a competitive field at Running Y Ranch Resort to conclude the first round in ninth place overall. The Warriors posted a team score of 358 (+70) and will look to make a move up the leaderboard when play resumes on Tuesday.
"I'm encourage with our women's play today," head coach Charlie Marshall shared regarding his team's day one results. We had a lot of great shots and results from everyone. Ashlyn played extremely well and there were several times she moved up the leaderboard. Additionally, a great collegiate start for Amanda and Kayle owned her par 3s with a birdie and par."
The Warriors closed the opening round in ninth place overall after posting a team score of 358 (+70). No. 4-ranked University of British Columbia leads the field at 292 (+4), while host No. 19-ranked Oregon Tech and No. 16-ranked Lewis-Clark State College share second place at 304 (+16). Corban remains within striking distance of several teams ahead of them, sitting only three strokes behind Southern Oregon as the tournament heads into its final 18 holes.
Junior Ashlyn Thomas paced the Warriors with a first-round score of 79 (+7), tying her for 18th overall and sitting just one stroke outside the top 15 entering the final round. Behind Thomas, junior Madelyn Moore turned in an opening-round 88 (+16) to finish tied for 37th, while freshman Amanda Ramirez carded an 89 (+17) and sits 40th overall. Junior Kaylee Umbright rounded out the Corban scoring contingent with a 102 (+30), placing 50th heading into Tuesday's finale. Thomas' round highlighted the day for the Navy and Gold, as she remained among the tournament's top 20 individuals despite a tightly packed leaderboard.
British Columbia's Grace Yao holds the individual lead after firing a tournament-best 70 (-2) on Monday. Fellow Thunderbird Sienna Harder sits second at even-par 72, while Lewis-Clark State's Isabella Barquet is third with a 74 (+2). Oregon Tech's Alyssa Kauleinamoku and Madison Dick, British Columbia's Keira Hou and Katherine Hao, and Lewis-Clark State's Taylor Mire are all tied for fourth after opening rounds of 75 (+3).
Corban women's golf will wrap up competition at the Oregon Tech Fall Invitational tomorrow before returning to action September 19th and 20th at the Bearcat Invitational hosted at NCAA DIII Willamette University at Creekside Golf Club.
