SALEM, Ore. – Despite a game-high six saves by junior goalkeeper Aaron Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.), Corban's men's soccer team fell to the Boxers of Pacific University, 3-0, Tuesday night in the 3rd edition of the always fan-favorite Soccer Under the Lights match on Warrior Field.
Pacific tallied back-to-back goals two minutes apart in the first half before adding another in the 79th minute to account for the final margin.
In the 37th minute, Boxer forward Michael Iacolucci dribbled through the defense to net his shot in the lower left corner. Two minutes later, Danny Williams scored via a header off a free kick to give Pacific a two-goal lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, Boxer substitute Mike Kawajiri found the back of the net on a rebound shot against Franklin to compete the scoring.
Though the Warriors were unable to tally a goal, they generated several opportunities that came up just short.
Corban had four second-half corner kicks resulting in near goals. In the final minutes, sophomore David Anderson (Salem, Ore.) had a header that went just wide of the Pacific goal.
Less than two minutes later, sophomore Parker Reed's (Auburn, Wash.) strong shot from beyond the 18-yard line was redirected by the outstretched arms of Pacific's keeper.
The third edition of Soccer Under the Lights was witnessed by more than 700 fans, as the action began just before the sunset and culminated under the stars.
With today's loss, the Warriors fall to 1-2 in early season play while Pacific improves to 1-0. The Warriors return to action on Saturday, September 6th, when they travel to Arcata, California to face NCAA Division II member Humboldt University beginning at 2:00 p.m.
