Steigleman Just Misses School Record in Win

BOX SCORE

REDDING, Calif.
– Sophomore Katie Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) scored a game and career-high 38 points on 15-for-24 shooting from the field to go along with a team-high tying 11 rebounds, as Corban's women's basketball team defeated California Pacific Conference member Simpson, 88-59, Saturday afternoon inside the Heritage Life Center.

Having won five of its last seven games, Corban improves to 7-10 overall and Simpson falls to 1-17 this season.

Steigleman, who broke the 30-point plateau for the first time in her career, nearly matched the school record for most points in a game that was set just over 10 years ago by former Warrior Kylie Miller with 39 points against Menlo on December 30, 2000. This is the first time in almost nine years that a Warrior has scored more than 30 points in a game, as former Warrior Aubrey Dickson netted 34 points against Albertson on February 8, 2001.

In today's victory, Steigleman connected on a school-record tying 15 field goals and was aided scoring-wise by a pair of Warriors – freshman Tess Bennett (Sutherlin, Ore.) and sophomore Becky Buhler (Clackamas, Ore.) – who tallied 12 and 11 points respectively.

On the boards, senior Monique Tribble (Coquille, Ore.) matched Steigleman's rebounding effort with a team-high tying 11 boards to go along with the second-year Warrior's game and career-high eight steals, which sits third on the all-time single-game list in program history.

Simpson was led by a pair of Redhawks – Paige Barrett and Dominique Simmons – who tallied 11 points each, while Simmons pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds that included five offensive and seven defensive boards.

Corban's season-high point performance came, as the Warriors connected on 35-of-71 (49.3%) shots to go along with a 6-for-10 (60.0%) showing from three-point range and a 12-for-19 (63.2%) performance at the free throw line. On the other hand, Simpson was 18-for-72 (25.0%) from the field, 4-for-23 (17.4%) from long distance, and 19-for-28 (67.9%) at the charity stripe.

The Warriors will return to the hardwood on Friday, January 8th, against Cascade Collegiate Conference member Warner Pacific beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.
