BOX SCORE
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Junior
Gus Bermudez (Culver City, Calif.) scored his team and conference-leading 11th goal of the season Friday, as Corban's men's soccer team earned its fifth win this year thanks to a 1-0 win over Oregon Tech at Trevor Derrah Field.
In a defensive battle in which both teams registered a total of six shots on goal, it was Bermudez's score in the 14th minute of an assist by freshman
Ibrahim Haruna (Gomby, Nigeria) that would turn out to be the game-winner. The scoring play would begin with a pass from Haruna to Bermudez, who took the ball 18 yards out and beat an Owl defender before netting a shot into the lower left corner of the goal.
Bermudez's goal was his fourth this season against Oregon Tech after the first-year Warrior scored a hat trick in the first meeting between the two teams in Salem.
Oregon Tech would register nine more shots (17-8) overall, but freshman goalkeeper
James Myrvold (Sandy, Ore.) needed to register only one save en route to picking up his second shut out of the season. On the other hand, OIT's Tanner Lee snagged a game-high three saves despite suffering the loss.
With tonight's win, Corban improves to 5-6-1 overall and 4-4-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Oregon Tech falls to 5-6-1 overall and 3-4-1 in league games. The Warriors will return to the field tomorrow afternoon – Saturday, October 16th – against conference rival Northwest Christian beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Eugene.
