Johann's Equalizer Not Enough Against Knights

BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore.
 – Sophomore Dustin Johann (Eagle River, Alaska) netted his first goal as a Warrior, but Corban's men's soccer team fell to the host Knights of Warner Pacific, 2-1, Saturday at David Douglas High School.

Warner Pacific netted the game's first score in the 28th minute, as Julian Esquivel passed to Tarik Subasic, who returned the ball to Esquivel for the scoring shot. The Knights controlled the ball for much of the first half, outshooting Corban 9-2 over the first 45 minutes to take a 1-0 advantage into halftime.

The visiting Warriors would draw even early in the second period, as Johann took a pass from junior Devin Chaney (Helena, Mt.) and looped a chip shot over the head of Warner Pacific goalkeeper Sean Ervin into the side netting in the 66th minute. The game remained knotted at 1-all until the 88th minute, when the Knights' Alija Sacirovic took a cross from Joel Duenas on a breakaway and finished at close range for the game-winner. WPC net-minder Ervin was also credited with an assist on the goal as his clearance started the breakaway.

Warner Pacific outshot Corban 12-4 in the second half to finish the game with a 21-6 edge in shots. Ervin made two saves to go with one assist in 90 minutes as keeper for WPC, while freshman James Myrvold (Sandy, Ore.) recorded a game-high seven saves in a complete game effort in goal for the Warriors.

With the loss, Corban falls to 5-11-1 overall, including 4-9-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Warner Pacific improves to 9-7-1 overall, with a 9-4-0 record in CCC action. The Warriors will return to the pitch for the final time this season on Saturday, November 6th, when they host Concordia on Senior Day beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Warrior Field.
