BOX SCORES – GAME #1 | GAME #2

VANCOUVER, B.C.
– Sophomore Jonathan Ramirez (New Britain, Conn.) went a combined 5-for-6 at the plate, but it was not enough as Corban's baseball team dropped a pair of league games to the NAIA's No. 9-ranked British Columbia, 8-1 & 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Thunderbird Park.

With today's result, Corban falls to 8-24 overall and 2-15 in NAIA West play. Meanwhile, British Columbia improves to 25-6 overall and 18-2 in league action.

Along with Ramirez, four other Warriors – junior Steven Candelaria (Farmington, N.M.), junior Kyle Taylor (Clackamas, Ore.), junior Tyler Lake (Medford, Ore.), and freshman Marc Labarthe (Salem, Ore.) – registered a hit each to go along with runs batted in by Ramirez and Candelaria.

GAME #1 – BRITISH COLUMBIA 8, CORBAN 1

The opening game would turn out to be a pitching gem by British Columbia's Brandon Kaye, as Corban registered a mere two hits and were outscored 8-0 over the opening seven innings before the visiting Warriors finally got on the board.

In the top of the eighth inning, Ramirez registered a one-out triple down the right field line before coming home with Corban's lone run via a Candelaria sacrifice fly to center field that capped the scoring in Game #1.

Ramirez would collect the Warriors' lone two hits in the opener, while junior Trevor Winsor (Troutdale, Ore.) went the opening 7.0 innings allowing eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits before turning the ball over to sophomore Mike McKay (Almira, Wash.) for the final three outs.

British Columbia was led by five different players that registered two hits each, while Nic Lendvoy and Blake Carruthers drove in two runs each. Kaye would go the opening 8.0 innings for the Thunderbirds allowing one earned run on two hits before turning the ball over to David Otterman for the game's final three outs.

GAME #2 – BRITISH COLUMBIA 3, CORBAN 1

The weekend's final game would begin with British Columbia scoring three unanswered runs in the opening two innings before Corban finally got on the board in the top of the sixth inning.

In Corban's next-to-last at-bat, the visiting Warriors would get runners on first and second with no outs following a Lake hit and a walk by freshman Craig Baker (Meridian, Idaho). Baker would advance to second in the midst of an attempted double steal, moved to third on a ground out, and then came home on Ramirez's infield single that capped the day's scoring.

Ramirez would once again lead Corban's offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, while the aforementioned quartet of Lake, Candelaria, Taylor and Labarthe all registered a hit. On the mound, junior Nate Hiebert (Lebanon, Ore.) went the opening 5.0 innings allowing three earned runs on five hits before turning the ball over to freshman David Hull (Kelso, Wash.) for the final three outs.

British Columbia was led offensively by six different players with one hit each, while Mark Hardy went the opening 5.0 innings for the T-birds allowing no runs on four hits before giving way to Shawn Hetherington and Taylor King for the game's final two innings.

Corban will return to the field on Tuesday, April 6th, in a make-up double header against fellow NAIA West member Concordia beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Warrior Field.
