Warriors Earn Season Sweep of Beacons of NCU

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Corban's men's soccer team earned its third straight victory with a 2-0 win over Cascade Collegiate Conference rival Northwest Christian Saturday at Morse Field thanks to a goals by junior Aaron Kinnes (Gladstone, Ore.) and sophomore Steffan Bard (Oregon City, Ore.).

"Another solid team performance with excellent finishes from Aaron and Steffan," said head coach Paul Meehan. "We defended well and take a lot of pride in earning a shutout."

With today's win, Corban improves to 9-6-0 overall and 7-4-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. The Warriors are now three points ahead of Warner Pacific for the third and final playoff spot with three games remaining in the regular season. Meanwhile, Northwest Christian falls to 2-12-1 overall and remains winless in league games at 0-10-1 this season.

After a scoreless 32 minutes of action, Kinnes would team with freshman Derik Chaney (Helena, Mont.) on the game-winning goal. The first-year Warrior would begin the scoring play with a perfectly placed crossing pass that found the awaiting head of Kinnes, who knocked home his seventh goal of the season.

Corban would take its one-goal lead into halftime, as the visiting Warriors held a slim two-shot advantage (6-to-4) over the Beacons of Northwest Christian after 45 minutes of play.

In the 72nd minute, Bard would net his third goal of the season after collecting a loose ball about 18 yards away from the goal and striking a rifle shot from 15 yards out for Corban's second goal of the afternoon.

The second half would belong to the visiting Warriors, as Corban held a 7-to-1 advantage in total shots resulting in a seven-shot difference (13-to-5) overall.

Freshman goalkeeper Steven Mason (Santa Rosa, Calif.) would earn his third shutout of the season making a pair of saves for the Warriors, while Northwest Christian's Nick Kratzke equalded Mason's net-minding performance with a game-high tying two saves for the host Beacons.

Corban will begin its final home weekend of the regular season on Friday, October 28th, against The College of Idaho beginning at 3:00 p.m. at a still to be determined location in Salem.
