Duo Leads Warriors Against Hustlin' Owls of OIT

BOX SCORE

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Junior Chandra Baskoro (Gresham, Ore.) and sophomore Olivia Shropshire (Gresham, Ore.) registered seven kills each, as Corban's women's volleyball team closed out its road schedule with a four-set loss, 3-1 (9-25, 26-24, 15-25, 19-25), to Oregon Tech Saturday at Danny Miles Court.

With tonight's result, Corban falls to 10-13 overall and 4-12 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. Meanwhile, Oregon Tech improves to 12-9 overall and 6-8 in league matches.

Along with Baskoro and Shropshire's team-high performance in kills, senior Tiffany Land (Independence, Ore.) and freshman Kayla Ping (Springfield, Ore.) added six and five kills, respectively. Offensively, freshmen Claire Bailey (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Rebecca Shafer (Brea, Calif.) added four kills to go along with a team-high 22 assists by senior Megan Dees (Tehachapi, Calif.). On the defensive end, sophomore libero Bethany Durre (Bend, Ore.) recorded a match-high 14 digs to go along with an 11-dig performance by Baskoro and a three-block showing by Land.

The opening set belonged to the host Owls, as Oregon Tech jumped out to a quick 17-point lead (21-4) following a combo block by Sarah Svedin and Kai Evans-Bautista. OIT's lead would be too much for Corban, as the Warriors could not get into double digits in points falling by 16 points (25-9) in Set #1.

Set #2 would be a dog fight throughout with Corban securing the largest lead at three points (20-17) following an attack error by Oregon Tech. The first set point would belong to the visiting Warriors, as Corban held a 24-23 lead only to see Oregon Tech use a Joey Parnell kill to extend the set. Following Parnell's set-tying kill, Corban scored the final two points off a kill by freshman Courtney Mulford (Upland, Calif.) and an Owl attack error en route to earning the two-point win (26-24) that knotted the match at a set-apiece.

The third set would be a back-and-forth battle in the beginning before Oregon Tech used a 12-4 run that resulted in an eight-point lead (16-8) for the Owls following a pair of service aces. OIT would continue to extend its lead to double digits (19-9) before settling for the 10-point win (25-15) on a Warrior service error.

Set #4 was a see-saw battle over the opening 16 combined points before Oregon Tech began to run away via a 6-0 run that became a 14-8 lead on a Mindy Nalder kill. Corban would get as close as two points (20-18) via a 10-6 run thanks to a Baskoro service ace, but Oregon Tech stepped up the offensive pressure and closed out the match on a 5-1 run for the six-point win (25-19).

Oregon Tech was led offensively by Parnell with a match-high 21 kills, while Jen Saltenberger and Aurora Penoyar added eight kills each. Svedin handed out a match-high 42 assists for the Owls, while Marie Baumann and Nalder registered a team-high 13 digs each for OIT.

Corban will return to action on Friday, November 28th, against Cascade Collegiate Conference rival Northwest Christian beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.
