Northern California Trip Ends With Loss to WJU

VALLEJO, Calif. – Sophomore Jordan Carter (Salem, Ore.) and senior James Green (Riverside, Calif.) combined to score 22 points, but it was not enough as Corban's men's basketball team fell to William Jessup, 60-57, in its final game at The California Maritime Academy Tournament in Northern California.

Carter tallied a game-high 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field, while Green added eight points and game-high eight rebounds against the Warriors of William Jessup. Junior Jacob Kopra (Gresham, Ore.) would come off the bench to score 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting from the field to go along with a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line. Junior Geoffrey Martin (Salem, Ore.) handed out a team-high three assists, while junior Dustin Moore (Garden Valley, Idaho) provided a team-best three steals defensively.

After the opening twenty minutes of play, William Jessup clung to a slim one-point lead (34-33) thanks to a scorching 61.9% shooting (13-for-21) from the field. Meanwhile, Corban remained in the game thanks to its four three-pointers and five free throws.

In the second half, Corban would go ice cold from beyond the arc with the Warriors missing all 10 of their three-point attempts. On the other hand, William Jessup continue to hold the hot hand making half of its shot attempts (11-for-22) from the field en route to out scoring Corban by a mere two points (26-24) for the final margin of three (60-57).

William Jessup was led offensively by Preston Brawmow with 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting from the field and a 4-for-8 showing at the free throw line. Meanwhile, Jordan Wilson provided 11 points off WJU's bench to go along with a nine-point effort by Anthony Anderson.

Offensively, Corban was a combined 21-for-52 (40.4%) from the field to go along with a 4-for-21 (19.0%) showing from beyond the three-point line and a 11-for-22 (50.0%) effort at the free throw line. On the other hand, William Jessup was 24-for-43 (55.8%) from the field, 4-for-11 (36.4%) from long distance, and 8-for-15 (53.3%) at the charity stripe.

With tonight's result, Corban falls to 0-2 and William Jessup improves to 1-1. The Warriors will return to the hardwood on Tuesday, November 8th, against Multnomah University beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Portland.
