BOX SCORES – GAME #1 | GAME #2

CALDWELL, Idaho – In the final two games of this weekend's NAIA West series against the No. 21-ranked Coyotes of The College of Idaho, senior Kyle Taylor (Clackamas, Ore.) went a combined 3-for-6 with two runs scored as Corban's baseball team dropped a pair of games, 6-4 & 9-2, at Wolfe Field.

Along with Taylor, junior Steven Blum (Salem, Ore.) drove in a team-high three runs as the Warriors pounded out 16 hits on the afternoon.

GAME #1 – COLLEGE OF IDAHO 6, CORBAN 4

Over the opening four innings, The College of Idaho would put three runs on the board en route to securing a 3-0 lead heading into the top of the fifth inning.

Corban's bats would come alive in the top of the fifth inning, as the visiting Warriors would plate four runs on five hits to take a one-run lead (4-3). The frame would begin with back-to-back hits by senior Tyler Lake (Medford, Ore.) and sophomore Andy Hill (Eugene, Ore.) before runners were on the corners with one out. A wild pitch would bring home Corban's first run, as junior pinch-runner Jared Fritz (Ridgefield, Wash.) scored from third. Taylor would then step to the plate and rope a single through the left side that allowed sophomore Kyle Kunkel (Bremerton, Wash.) to come home and brought the Warriors within a single run (3-2). Following a hit-by-pitch that loaded the bases, Blum ripped a single into center field that scored Taylor and freshman Lance Foster (Snohomish, Wash.) with the go-ahead runs.

The College of Idaho wasted no time in tying the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth via a sacrifice fly before the host Coyotes plated a pair of runs two innings later. C of I would get the eventual game-winning run via a steal home by Jeffrey Harris before Brett Ward added an insurance run thanks to a single down the left field line that scored Izaac Garsez in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Over the final two innings, Corban could only muster one hit thanks to a lead off single by junior Jonathan Ramirez (New Britain, Conn.) in the top of the eighth inning.

Taylor and Foster led the Warriors' offense with two hits each, while Blum provided the run-scoring power with a pair of RBI. On the mound, senior Nate Hiebert (Lebanon, Ore.) went the opening 4.0 innings allowing four earned runs on six hits before turning the ball over to fellow senior Trevor Winsor (Troutdale, Ore.). The right-handed reliever allowed two earned runs on three hits over 4.0 innings en route to suffering the heart-breaking loss.

The College of Idaho would get a perfect 3-for-3 performance out of Harris that included four runs scored, while Joshua Orr went the opening 5.0 innings for the Coyotes allowing four earned runs on seven hits. C of I's Todd Griffiths would pitch the final 4.0 innings of relief, as he allowed a single hit en route to picking up his third victory of the season.

GAME #2 – COLLEGE OF IDAHO 9, CORBAN 2

The second and final game of the afternoon would begin with Corban scoring two runs in the top of the first via a run-scoring double to center field by Blum that plated Taylor, who led off the inning being hit by a pitch. The very next batter – freshman Joshua Walker (Oregon City, Ore.) – brought home Fritz with an infield ground out, as Corban took an early 2-0 lead after its opening at-bat.

Unfortunately, the Warriors would not hold the lead very long as The College of Idaho scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning on a three-run Kyle Douglas home run over the left field fence. Douglas' second home run of the season would turn out to be the game-winner, as the host Coyotes plated six more runs over the next two innings and held Corban scoreless.

Fritz would lead Corban's bat-attack with two hits, while Blum and Walker generated the Warriors' runs in the first inning. Winsor would toe the rubber at the beginning for Corban allowing four earned runs on four hits over 2.0 innings of work before turning the ball over to a quartet of Warrior relievers. Corban's bullpen that consisted of junior Colby Sokol (Puyallup, Wash.), junior Quinn Macnab (The Dalles, Ore.), sophomore David Hull (Kelso, Wash.), and junior Mike McKay (Almira, Wash.) combined to allow five runs (two earned) on five hits over the final 4.0 innings of work.

The College of Idaho was led offensively by Tanner Hodges with a perfect 2-for-2 performance with a pair of runs scored, while Douglas went 1-for-1 with two runs scored and four RBI. On the mound, Levi Mitchum went the opening 2.0 innings for C of I allowing two earned runs on five hits before turning the ball over to Chad Yeggy and Jesse Vermillion for the final 5.0 innings. Yeggy would earn the victory, as he went a near-perfect four innings of relief allowing just two hits with a game-high five strikeouts.

With today's results, Corban falls to 2-17 overall and 0-7 in NAIA West play. Meanwhile, The College of Idaho extends its winning streak to 11 games improving to 18-10 overall and 8-4 in league games. The Warriors will return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 22nd, in a noon double header against NCAA Division III member Lewis & Clark at Warrior Field in Salem.
