Warriors Cruise to Win Over Puget Sound Via Shutout

PASCO, Wash. – The pitching trio of junior Justin White, sophomore Bryce Watterud, and freshman Justin Knoll held Puget Sound scoreless, as Corban's baseball team picked up its third win at this weekend's Swing Into Spring College Baseball Classic, 16-0, Saturday at Gesa Stadium.

Corban (5-0) would get seven scoreless innings from White before Watterud and Knoll combined to allow just two hits over the final two innings, while sophomore Marc Gallegos led the Warriors' offense with three hits and junior Lance Foster drove in three runs.

Puget Sound (4-2) was led offensively by six different players that register a hit each, while Jesse Schumacher allowed seven runs (six earned) on seven hits in 1.1 innings of work before turning the ball over to six Logger relievers.

Corban would open the game by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning, as Foster's two-run double down the left field line highlighted the Warriors' at-bat. Junior Peter Martin and senior Andy Hill would drive home Corban's other two runs on RBI hits making the score 4-0 in favor of the Warriors.

In the bottom of the second inning, Corban would put three more runs on the board thanks to RBIs by Foster and Martin as well as Gallegos scoring the Warriors' seventh run of the game.

Gallegos would drive in Corban's eighth run on a single down the left field line in the bottom of the third inning that brought home freshman Steven Kha after he ripped a one-out double down the left field line.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Corban added two more runs making the score 10-0 when Kha registered an infield single that brought home sophomore Jordan Johansen before Hill scored on the throw down to second in an attempt to catch Kha stealing.

One inning later, Corban added two more runs on a RBI triple to left center by Johansen before he came around to score on a UPS error to make the score 12-0 in favor of the Warriors.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Corban would put its final four runs on the board thanks to run-scoring hits by senior Alex Bost, junior Nate Williams, and junior Marc Labarthe as well as freshman Lathan Alger scoring on a wild pitch for the final tally of 16-0.

Corban will continue play at the Swing Into Spring College Baseball Classic tomorrow – Sunday, February 17th – against tournament-host Whitworth beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Gesa Stadium in Pasco, Washington.
