GAME #1 – CORBAN 5, COLLEGE OF IDAHO 0

The opening game of this weekend's NAIA West series was a one-sided affair, as Corban dominated on the mound and at the plate. The Warriors would allow just four hits and seven base runners, while collecting 10 hits and putting 14 Corban runners on base.

Corban would get on the scoreboard first in its opening at-bat, as junior Gregg Romero registered a one-out single up the middle before advancing to second on Legg's single through the right side. Both runners would move up one base when junior Lance Foster grounded out to first before Romero came home on a COI throwing error to give the visiting team an early 1-0 lead.

In the top of the second inning, Corban would add two more runs when Gallegos registered a two-out single through the left side that brought home junior Nate Williams following his one-out walk. Immediately following Gallegos' run-scoring hit, Romero would keep the inning alive when he reached on another COI error that allowed freshman Landon Frost to score after he entered the game to pinch run for fellow freshman Steven Kha to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead.

Corban would add another run in the top of the fifth inning when Legg led off with a double to left field before coming around to score one batter later on sophomore Jordan Johansen's double down the left field line giving the visiting team a four-run lead (4-0).

In the top of the seventh inning, Corban posted its fifth and final run on the board thanks to a RBI single to right field by Kha that scored Frost after he drew a one-out walk one batter earlier.

Legg, Gallegos, and Kha would lead Corban's offense with two hits each, while four other Warriors – Romero, Foster, Johansen, and Hill – registered a hit apiece in the win.

The College of Idaho was led offensively by Hennessey with two hits each, while Taylor Nicholson went the opening 7.0 innings allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits with a game-high six strikeouts before the relief duo of Brady Winfield and Joel Martin registered the final six outs for the Coyotes.

GAME #2 – COLLEGE OF IDAHO 8, CORBAN 5

The second game would be a different story for both teams, as The College of Idaho would score eight runs despite registering just seven hits and putting 10 runners on base. On the other hand, Corban was held to just five runs despite 12 hits and a combined 14 runners reaching base.

Similar to the opening game, Corban would get on the board in the top of the first inning when Gallegos led off with a single to center field before stealing second and advancing to third on a ground out by Romero. Legg would then step to the plate and bring Gallegos home with a run-scoring single to right field to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

The College of Idaho would answer back with two runs in the bottom of the second inning when reigning NAIA West Player of the Week Jesse Dodd drew a lead off walk before coming around to score on a Corban throwing error one batter later to tie the game at 1-1. On the error, Joe Roseberry would advance to third and then came home on a sacrifice fly to left field by Vernon to give the Coyotes a one-run lead (2-1).

In the top of the third inning, Corban would retake the lead by scoring three runs on a pair of hits. Gallegos would lead off with a double to left center before advancing to third on a COI error that allowed Romero to reach safely and came home on Legg's double down the right field line to even the score at 2-2. Foster would then step to the plate and lifted a sacrifice fly to center field allowing Romero to come home before Johansen grounded out to shortstop to bring Legg home with the Warriors' final run to push Corban's lead to 4-2.

C of I would pull within a single run (4-3) in the bottom of the third inning when Jarel Lewis brought home Seth Champlin on a ground out to short following Champlin's lead off walk before he advanced to second on a pass ball and third on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, C of I would take the lead for good when the host Coyotes scored five runs on four hits that included RBIs by Tom Lamue, Brent Mehling, Nick Muncy, and Lewis to give the host team an 8-4 lead.

Corban would not score again until the top of the ninth inning when Legg led off with an infield single before advancing to second on a deep flyout by Johansen one batter later. Legg would come around to score when Williams reached on another COI error to bring the Warriors within three runs (8-5). Unfortunately, The College of Idaho would get a game-ending pop up to first base to salvage the double header split with Corban.

Legg would lead Corban's offense with a perfect 4-for-4 performance at the plate with a pair of RBI, while Gallegos collected three hits to go along with a two-hit showing by Hill. Junior Justin White got the start for the Warriors allowing four runs (two earned) on one hit over the opening 3.0 innings before senior Caleb Virtue pitched just one inning allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits en route to suffering the loss. Sophomore Andy Theissen and senior David Hull combined to pitch the final four innings allowing just two hits.

The College of Idaho got two hits each by Greg Simonds and Vernon, while Eddy pitched a strong 7.0 innings allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits before turning the ball over to Winfield for the game's final six outs.

Both teams will return to action tomorrow – Saturday, March 9th – in a mid-morning double header that begins at 11:00 a.m. on Wolfe Field in Caldwell, Idaho.
