Record-Breaking Season Comes to an End for Warriors

BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore. – After setting a single-season record for wins earlier today, Corban's baseball team had its season come to an end with a 6-1 loss to top-seeded British Columbia Thursday afternoon at the NAIA West Tournament being played at Porter Park on the campus of Concordia University.

Corban (30-24) was led offensively by senior Jeremiah Forrister and junior Peter Martin with two hits each, while three other Warriors – senior Kyle Kunkel, senior Matt Hamlin, and freshman Landon Frost – also registered hits. Senior Caleb Virtue got the start for Corban allowing six earned runs on eight hits in 2.2 innings of work before turning the ball over to senior David Hull and sophomore Jordan Johansen. The relief duo of Hull and Johansen would combine to pitch a perfect 5.1 inning without allowing a single run, hit, or base runner.

British Columbia (26-17) remained alive in the NAIA West Tournament behind a pair of two-hit performances by Tyson Popoff and Mike Hole, as Hole drove in a game-high two runs. Alex Graham went the opening 6.0 innings for the Thunderbirds allowing six hits to go along with a game-high tying one strikeout before turning the ball over to Alex Webb and Connor Smith for the final 3.0 innings.

A pitcher's duel would paint the piture over the opening 2½ innings before British Columbia erupted for six runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning, as Hole highlighted the at-bat with a two-run double down the right field line that scored Jared Bartnik and Andrew Firth with the eventual game-winning runs.

Corban would put its lone run on the board in the top of the eighth inning to pull within five runs (6-1) when Frost scored on a balk by UBC following his leadoff single to left field.

Unfortunately that would be as close as Corban would get, as British Columbia shut down the Warriors' offense and ended their season.

Corban will now turn its attention to next season, as the Warriors return 23 players from this year's roster.
