Warriors Stay Alive With Win Over Owls of OIT in Rose City

BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore. – After dropping a tough game last night in extra innings, Corban's baseball team rode the arm of senior Jamie McCaffrey to stay alive in the NAIA West Tournament thanks to a 3-0 win over Oregon Tech Thursday at Porter Park.

Corban (30-23) set a single-season record for wins thanks to a complete game, four-hit performance by McCaffrey to go along with a game-high four strikeouts, while junior William Koenig registered a game-high tying two hits and one run batted in. Three other Warriors – senior Derek Legg, junior Peter Martin, and junior Gregg Romero – also tallied hits for the Warriors, as Martin drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the first inning.

Oregon Tech (20-36) would have its season come to an end despite a 2-for-4 showing by Alex Reynolds, while Ryan Hayden and Jared Nelson registered the only other hits for the Hustlin' Owls. Talon Sisley got the start for OIT allowing three earned runs on five hits in 6.1 innings of work before Raf Belloc allowed just one walk in 1.2 innings of relief.

Corban would get the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning when Legg roped a two-out double to right field before coming home on Marint's double to left field, as the Warriors built a one-run lead (1-0) after their opening at-bat.

Neither team would score again until the bottom of the fifth inning when freshmn Landon Frost drew a bases loaded walk that scored fellow freshman Lathan Alger giving Corban a two-run advantage (2-0).

Two innings later, Corban would put its third and final run on the scoreboard thanks to a RBI single to left field by Koenig that scored senior Jeremiah Forrister following his leadoff walk.

Over the final two innings, Oregon Tech would not threaten with Corban's pitching and defense not allow an Owl runner past second base as the Warriors secured their eighth shutout of the season.

Thanks to the victory, Corban will return to action last this afternoon against the tournament's top-seeded Thunderbirds of British Columbia at 3:00 p.m. at Porter Park in Portland.
