Big Innings Give Pacific 9-1 Win Over Corban

BOX SCORE SALEM – Pacific scored four runs in the first and eighth innings in defeating Corban, 9-1, in a non-conference baseball game played Tuesday afternoon at Warrior Field.

The Boxers improved their season record to 6-9 and dropped the Warriors to 13-11.

Pacific scored four runs on three hits and a costly Corban error to take a lead it would not surrender. Nathan Suyematsu led off with a single and Donnie Bradley followed with a double just inside the first base bag, and both runners scored on the error. Jimmy Brakebush drove in a run with a ground out and the final run scored from third when Lanson Yamamoto got caught in rundown between first and second base.

Corban scored its only run of the game in the second after two were out when Jon Mercer was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a single by Ryan Rosas and then scored on Gregg Romero's single through the right side of the infield.

The Boxers put the game away with a four-run eighth inning, making the most of five hits. Brakebush and Fernando Careaga had RBI singles and Suyematsu drove in two more with a base hit to left-centerfield.

The visitors added another run on two hits in the ninth with pinch hitter Ryan Sohn picking up the RBI with a bases-loaded ground out.

Pacific finished the game with 12 hits against a total of six Corban pitcher. Suyematsu had three hits, scored a run and drove in two for the Boxers, who also got two hits and three runs from Walker Olis.

The Warriors managed seven hits, led by Benjamin Liogon's 2-for-4 performance, against a trio of Pacific pitchers.

Levi Peterson, who came on in relief with two out in the fourth, improved his record to 1-0 by allowing no runs on two hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Corban starter Tony Davidson pitched two innings and took the loss. The Warriors got a solid relief effort from Micah Ropp, who allowed just one hit in three innings of work.

The Warriors return to NAIA West action this Friday and Saturday when they host College of Idaho in a four-game series. The teams play a doubleheader starting at noon on Friday and another twinbill beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
