BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 SALEM – In a pair of pitching duels, Corban and College of Idaho split a NAIA West baseball doubleheader played Friday afternoon at Warrior Field.

The Warriors won the opener, 3-2, scoring the winning run with two out in the bottom of the ninth, and the visiting Coyotes tallied single runs in the eighth and ninth to pull out a 2-1 victory in the second contest. Both teams are now 14-12 overall this season. Corban is 6-4 in league play while College of Idaho is now 5-5.

Jacob Kopra saw his consecutive scoreless inning streak come to an end at 18 innings when the 'Yotes scored in the top of the first, but he battled through a 136-pitch complete-game effort to improve his season record to 5-0. The senior right-hander allowed two earned runs on seven hits while striking out eight and walking two.

His counterpart, Taylor Nicholson, pitched through 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out one. George Casper pitched a perfect 1 1/3 innings before making way for 'Yotes relief ace Kyle Garvin, whom the Warriors touched for the winning run in the ninth.

College of Idaho scored the game's initial run in the first on three singles with Cole Mansanarez picking up the RBI with a base hit to right-center field.

Corban got the run back in the bottom of the second, sandwiching walks to Scott Dreier and William Koenig around a pair of singles by Tyler Bennett and Benjamin Liogon.

Both teams scored a run in the fifth inning to keep the game tied at 2-2. The 'Yotes got theirs on a walk to Troy Carr, a ground out and a two-out single up the middle by Jordan Grubbs. Liogon once again had a part in Corban's run, leading off with a double down the left field line, advancing to third on Koenig's sacrifice and scoring on a sacrifice fly to center field by Marc Gallegos.

The 'Yotes and Warriors both left a pair of runners on in the seventh, and it took until the bottom of ninth before the hosts decided it. A one-out walk to Bennett was followed by a two-out single to center by pinch hitter Jordan Johansen. Jon Mercer came into the game to pinch run for Bennett, and he scored on a single to left-center by Gallegos.

Corban finished with nine hits, including a pair each from Gallegos and Liogon. College of Idaho had seven hits with Carr getting two and scoring both of the team's runs from the leadoff spot.

COLLEGE OF IDAHO 2, CORBAN 1 (Box Score)

Corban left-hander Austin Guzzon took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and ended up with no decision as Zach Fabricius kept his team in the game by limiting the Warriors to six hits and an unearned run through 7 2/3 innings of work.

The Warriors scored their only run in the first when Gallegos led off with his first of three singles. He stole second, took third on a throwing error and scored on a ground out by Daniel Orr. That was it for Corban against Fabricius.

In the meantime, Guzzon was stellar, not allowing a hit and pitching around five walks, a hit batter and an error to keep the 'Yotes scoreless until the eighth inning.

Riley Humberger broke up the no-hitter with a leadoff single in the eighth, and pinch runner Brady Mooney advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Carr. With two out Mitch Skaggs walked, with Joe Roseberry taking his place as a pinch runner. Roseberry proceeded to get in a rundown long enough to allow Mooney to score from third base and tie the score at 1-1.

Corban had a pair of hits in the bottom of the eighth and left those two runners in scoring position, setting up College of Idaho's game-winning rally in the ninth against reliever Johansen. Grubbs hit a one-out single, stole second and scored on a base hit by Gregg Simonds.

Garvin, the losing pitcher in the first game, picked up the win in the second contest, gong 1 1/3 innings and retiring the Warriors in order in the ninth.

The 'Yotes managed just three hits while the Warriors picked up six, including three by leadoff hitter Gallegos.

The two teams conclude their four-game NAIA West series with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
