BOX SCORE FOREST GROVE – Pacific rallied for six runs with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and beat Corban, 7-6, in a non-league baseball game played Wednesday night at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.
Until the Boxers put together their game-winning rally the visiting Warriors were well on their way to their 17th win of the season. Instead, they fell to 16-14 overall while Pacific improved to 8-11.
The big rally came via four hits, an error, three walks, a wild pitch and a balk. Corban put the tying run on second base in the top of the ninth on
Davis Alderman's two-out double, but a strikeout ended the game.
Corban scored four runs in the third inning on four hits and an error to take a 4-0 lead.
Scott Dreier and
Benjamin Liogon had run-scoring singles, another scored on a ground ball by Alderman, and the fourth came in on an error.
The Warriors added single tallies in the fourth and fifth innings after leadoff triples.
Marc Gallegos started the top of the fourth with a triple and
Ben Straka picked up the RBI with a ground ball. An inning later it was Alderman with the triple and he scored on a base hit by
Ryan Rosas.
That was it for the Warriors, however, as Boxers relief pitcher Austin Gallagher allowed just one run on five hits over the final five innings. Gallagher ended up getting the win for his first decision of the season.
Alderman was 4-for-5 with a run scored and one driven in and Straka was 2-for-4 to pace Corban's 12-hit offensive attack.
A total of seven pitchers took the mound for the Warriors with
Rilyn Lewchuk taking the loss.
The Warriors return to action this weekend with a four-game NAIA West series at Concordia. The teams open the series with a game starting at 2 p.m. on Friday.
