BOX SCORE 2 SALEM – Corban received strong starting pitching performances from
Tony Davidson and
Rilyn Lewchuk on Saturday night to sweep the final two games of a NAIA West baseball series from the visiting Oregon Tech Owls at Volcanoes Stadium.
The Warriors won today's opener, 3-1, before taking the night cap by a 10-2 score.
As a result of sweeping the four-game league series this weekend, the Warriors improve their overall record to 22-17 and their NAIA West mark to 13-7. Oregon Tech is now 9-31 overall and 4-16 in the league.
CORBAN 3, OREGON TECH 1Davidson, a former reliever making his fifth start of the season, was outstanding as he allowed just one run on four hits in eight innings. The left-hander walked three and struck out four while improving his season record to 3-1. Freshman
Micah Ropp pitched the ninth inning, allowing one hit, to pick up his first save of the season.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when the Warriors scored the game's first run.
Jackson Smith reached on a two-out fielding error and pinch runner
Jon Mercer scored on an opposite-field triple by
Landon Frost.
Corban added two more in the bottom of the sixth on four hits.
Daniel Orr led off with a double that landed a couple of feet from the fence 405 feet away in center field. He moved up a base on a single by
Marc Gallegos and then scored on a base hit by
Ben Straka.
Davis Alderman followed with a base hit to drive in Gallegos to make the score 3-0.
Oregon Tech scored its only run in the top of the eighth inning when Tyson Dahl led off with a walk, reached second on a fielder's choice and third on a balk. He then scored on a ground out by Aaron Bocchi.
Josh DeVaughn had two of Oregon Tech's five hits, while Straka led the seven-hit Corban offense with a pair of singles. Darian Benanua allowed all three runs in 5 2/3 innings and took the loss.
CORBAN 10, OREGON TECH 2Lewchuk improved his season record to 3-4, allowing two runs on five hits over seven innings of work.
Eli Driessen and
Adam Shumka both threw a hitless inning to finish up for the Warriors.
The hosts put the game away early, scoring four times in both the first and second innings.
Benjamin Liogon hit a two-run single and Alderman hit an opposite-field, two-run double to the fence in left to account for the first two runs. Their four runs in the second came on just two hits. Orr drove in a run with a single, Gallegos was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for a RBI, and both Straka and Alderman drove in runs with ground balls.
Corban played add-on with a run in the fourth on Alderman's RBI double following a walk to
Stockton Taylor, and in the fifth on Straka's run-scoring single following a Gallegos double.
Oregon Tech's two runs came in the second inning on two hits. Bryce Asao led off with a double, Ben Krueger followed with a bunt single to move Asao to third base, and Cameron Cole walked to load the bases. Asao scored a fielder's choice ground ball by Aaron Burke, and Tyson Dahl followed with a sacrifice fly to drive in Krueger.
The Warriors finished with 12 hits, led by Orr and Alderman with three-hit games. Alderman drove in four runs, Straka and Liogon both had a pair of RBI, while Romero, Orr and Gallegos all scored twice.
The Owls finished with five hits, led by Josh DeVaughn with two singles. Starting pitcher BJ Wilson took the loss, allowing nine runs, though only three were earned, in 3 2/3 innings of work.
Corban returns to action at 2:30 p.m. when it hosts the Lewis & Clark College Pioneers in a pair of seven-inning non-league games at Warrior Field.
