Jacob Garsez Elevated to Associate Head Baseball Coach at Corban

SALEM – Ore. - Corban University Director of Athletics Greg Eide announced on Thursday afternoon that Corban Assistant Baseball Coach Jacob Garsez has been elevated to become the Associate Head Baseball Coach for the Warriors.  He joins Head Baseball Coach, Jeff McKay, as the two leaders for the Warriors moving forward.

"This appointment reflects the commitment and excellent leadership Jacob has exhibited as Coach Jeff McKay's lead assistant," said Eide.  "Coach McKay has done an outstanding job developing our baseball program, and this sets a structure in place for a seamless transition when Jeff decides it is time to hand over the baton to Jacob.  We are really excited about the direction our program is headed, and confident that this arrangement will ensure we stay on that course well into the future."

Garsez looks to continue to build on his strong resume while leading the Warrior baseball program to even greater heights.  As a part of the Corban coaching staff since fall of 2011, Garsez has served as the recruiting coordinator, the third base coach, run the offense for the Warriors, developed practice plans, coordinated Warrior baseball camps, and worked as both the catching and infield coach.  Over the course of his three years with the team, he's helped the squad accumulate an 87-73 overall record.

"Jacob has been an integral part of our efforts to build a successful program at Corban during these last three seasons," commented McKay.  "I have given him more responsibility each year and he has done a great job in all areas. It has allowed me to do more things in other areas that has improved our program.  Registering three seasons of 28 or more wins does not come easily. It takes a dedicated, and knowledgeable coaching staff for that to happen. I have been blessed to have that kind of staff along with Jacob. I am looking forward to Jacob as associate head coach to help Corban baseball reach even higher levels for years to come."

Prior to Corban, Garsez spent one season as the head baseball coach at Caldwell High School in Idaho, and during that year was named the 5A Southern Idaho Conference Coach of the Year after leading his alma mater to the playoffs for the first time in five seasons.  Additionally, he worked as an American Legion coach in 2009 and 2010 while also serving as head coach of the Caldwell Silverstreaks in 2011.

Collegiately, Garsez attended The College of Idaho from 2007-09, leading the Coyotes to a pair of NAIA Regional Runner-up finishes in 2007 and 2008.

"I am thankful for the opportunity that Jeff McKay has provided me here at Corban over the past three years and feel blessed to continue to grow under his mentorship as a professional in the Corban community," Garsez reflected.  "The development of the program has improved significantly over that time, and I look forward to having a more significant role carrying out our vision moving forward. I am honored that Greg Eide, along with Jeff, have considered me for this transition. We have excellent athletes with wide ranges of abilities related and not related to the sport of baseball, and it truly is an honor to work with our athletes. I look forward to continuing to be a part of growing Corban Baseball spiritually, academically, and athletically!"
