BOX SCORE PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 18-ranked Corban University men's soccer team finished off a great weekend on the road, scoring eight more goals en route to an 8-1 triumph over Multnomah University on a rainy and windy Saturday night in Portland. For Corban, it marks its 12th win of the 2016 campaign with four pivotal Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) matches remaining.
"The guys established control of the game today with their possession and movement," said Corban head men's soccer coach Aaron Lewis. "That possession and purpose created wide channels to play through and gaps in between their lines. Whenever we do those things, our finishing follows."
Multnomah actually jumped in front in the contest in the 16th minute when the Lions earned a penalty kick, and converted the opportunity to go in front 1-0.
Senior defender Jacob Young brought the match level just five minutes later for Corban when he buried a header off of the perfect feed from a free kick by junior forward Rolando Velazquez.
Velazquez then put Corban in front 2-1 in the 36th minute off an assist from senior defender Westley Coleman.
Junior forward Timur Zhividze, who scored three goals on Friday against Walla Walla, then made it a 3-1 lead for the Warriors when he blasted hit shot into the back of the net off of a corner kick from senior forward Quamie Dinnall.
In those first 45 minutes, Corban outshot Multnomah, 20-3, and also totaled five corner kicks to zero for the Lions.
Zhividze scored his second of the night in the 51st minute of play, finding the bottom corner of the net off the feed from sophomore midfielder Josh Escobar.
Up 4-1, the Warriors remained efficient in the attacking third over the final 30 minutes of the contest, as sophomore forward Nic Far scored his second goal in as many days, making it 5-1 in the 60th minute.
A pair of first-career goals then came for Corban, as freshman defender Christian Silva scored in the 71st minute and sophomore defender Iliya Zhividze buried a beauty in the 83rd minute of play.
To cap off the powerful offensive display on the windy and rainy evening, junior defender Langdon Roscoe finished off Corban's eighth goal of the night in the 84th minute. The assist on the final goal came from Velazquez, marking his third of the evening for the second-straight match. He has now dished out nine assists on the year to lead the team.
The Navy and Gold held a 32-7 shots advantage in the win and an 8-0 corner-kick edge, dominating in all facets of the game.
Corban (12-2, 7-2 CCC) returns home for its final four matches of the 2016 regular season. The first is next Friday vs. Eastern Oregon University. Kickoff is set for a 2 p.m. start.
