BOX SCORE STAYTON, Ore. – For the second-straight week, sophomore righty Rilyn Lewchuk (Oregon City, Ore.) pitched an absolute gem of a game, allowing just one hit in seven innings as the Corban University baseball team dominated Simpson University, 10-0, winning the NAIA-West series, two games to one. The fourth and final game of the series, which was a non-conference contest, was cancelled due to the poor weather.

Lewchuk was dealing early for the Warriors amidst torrential downpours and high winds at Stayton High School, not allowing a hit through the first three innings of the game on the mound.
Offensively, the Warriors got to work right away, as senior center fielder Hayden Calvert (Canberra, Australia) laced an RBI single to right center, scoring Warrior sophomore second baseman Daniel Freiburger (Rupert, Idaho) on the play to give the Warriors the early advantage. Junior third baseman Vince Gonzalez (Kennewick, Wash.) laced an RBI single in the second and fourth innings, and at that point, the rout was on. By the end of the fourth frame, the Warriors led the Red Hawks, 8-0.
The Warriors added one in the sixth frame and one more in the eighth while the pitching remained dominant throughout, resulting in the 10-run eight-inning series-clinching triumph for the Warriors.
Gonzalez finished the day 3-for-5 at the dish with two RBI and one run scored, while Calvert went 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Also registering a solid performance was junior outfielder Benjamin Liogon (Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico), as he laced three hits and scored three runs in the 10-run victory. In addition, senior first baseman Scott Weidlich (Portland, Ore.) recorded two hits off the bench for the Navy and Gold.
Lewchuk finished the game with five strikeouts in seven innings pitched, allowing just the one hit. Sophomore lefty Austin Holmes (Mount Lake Terrace, Wash.) came on in relief in the final inning, giving up one hit and no runs to help preserve the shutout.
"Another dominating performance by Rilyn," said Corban head coach Jeff McKay. "Calvert showed his offensive potential with a big day. We did a good job playing in tough weather conditions, but needed to get the home conference games in with no makeup dates available except for mid-week."
After the game, Lewchuk talked about the victory in a post-game interview:
Corban (7-11, 4-5 NAIA-West) returns to action next week for another conference series, this time against Oregon Tech on the road. Games are set to be played on Saturday and Sunday in Klamath Falls at 1 p.m.
