Not only is this year's Warriors softball team the first-ever team in program history to advance to the NAIA Softball World Series, but this marks the first time a Corban team (regardless of any sport) finds itself as one of the final 10 teams remaining in the NAIA National Tournament. The furthest any team had advanced before was to the NAIA Round of 16 (men's soccer, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball).
Earning a spot at the World Series thanks to winning its NAIA Opening Round bracket in Kentucky, the Warriors are one of the final 10 teams still alive and with a shot at winning the NAIA National Championship. In the double-elimination tournament, Corban is slated to play in the final game of the first day of the tournament against Marian Knights.
The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) is one of two conferences with two teams represented (Corban and Southern Oregon University), with the other being the Crossroads League (Marian and Indiana Wesleyan University).
Marian, Corban's first opponent of the NAIA World Series, comes into Friday evening's contest with a 47-4 overall record and won the Costa Mesa (Calif.) bracket. The Knights lead the NAIA in fielding percentage with a .974 overall mark. The team also ranks third overall in the NAIA in earned run average (0.97) and sixth overall in batting average (.355).
Individually, Logan Personett leads the way with a .426 batting average and 72 hits on the year with 24 RBI and 45 runs scored. Coming through with many clutch hits throughout the campaign is Mackenzie Reeder with 55 hits and a .353 batting average, totaling a team-best 42 RBI. In the circle, Breena Smith ranks No. 2 overall in the NAIA with a 0.58 ERA, and her opponents' batting average of .159 ranks No. 5 overall.
Corban (43-11) is ranked second overall as a team in the NAIA in doubles per game (2.11) and hits per game (10.01). In addition, the Warriors rank No. 6 overall in batting average (.347). Individually, Iris Rodriguez leads the way at the dish with a .414 batting average, totaling 67 hits on the year with 44 RBI and 20 doubles. Taylor Eilders boasts a team-high 83 hits with 40 RBI, four home runs, and 54 runs scored. Jessie Isham ranks No. 5 overall in the NAIA in home runs (18), and she's totaled a team-best 59 RBI to go with 67 hits. In the circle, Sabrina Boyd boasts a team-best 1.66 ERA, while Allie Mendez owns a 2.27 ERA for the Warriors.
