PORTLAND, Ore. – Getting back to its winning ways, the (RV) Corban University volleyball team bounced back in a big way on Friday evening in Portland, sweeping (25-23, 25-17, 25-13) Multnomah University in a Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) match.
"We had a slow start tonight," said Corban head coach Kim McLain, "but I was pleased with the way they came together, finishing strong."
In what was a very tight set one, Corban maintained a good overall balance of seeing its veterans succeed as they have all year long, while also seeing some rookies shine. The Warriors rotation and depth proved crucial as usual, closing out the stanza with critical late-set points for the two-point set triumph.
Set two was more of the same, but the Navy and Gold seemed to be gaining even more momentum, resulting in the eight-point set win.
In the third and final set, the train that the Warriors had going continued to steamroll, as Corban finished out the sweep by winning the final set by 12 points.
The Warriors were paced offensively by Avari Ridgway with 10 kills, while Cassie Cunningham totaled seven and Demi Winters recorded six.
Jadyn Mullen and Cierra Leopoldino provided another great one-two punch in Corban's two-setter system, combining for 37 assists on the night, highlighted by Leopoldino's 24. And defensively, the team played solid all over the court, totaling six blocks and 52 digs, with Kealani Ontai tallying a team-best 18 digs.
Corban (11-8, 7-3 CCC) returns to the court on Saturday night when it plays again in Portland at Warner Pacific University. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
