SALEM, Ore. – Within the last eight days, the No. 22-ranked and fourth-seeded Corban University volleyball team has won 12-straight sets, notching four sweeps in a row, including a straight-set win over fifth-seeded Northwest University on Tuesday night in a Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament Quarterfinal, presented by U.S. Bank. "Tonight was a great all-around team effort, and I was extremely proud of how they were intentional at keeping to the game plan," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "We are excited to get in the gym tomorrow and prepare for playoffs."
Corban (20-10) now heads south to take on CCC regular-season co-champion and top-seeded Southern Oregon University on Friday night in Ashland in a CCC Tournament semifinal.
During the four-match winning streak, the Warriors seem to have found their groove, and it certainly didn't let up on Tuesday, as with Northwest playing to keep its season alive, Corban left no doubt about if it would complete the season sweep of the Eagles, taking command right away in set one.
While holding big leads in each of the three stanzas, the Warriors swung for a .286 attacking mark on the evening while holding the Eagles to just a .191 hitting percentage. Corban totaled 47 kills on the night and dished out 45 assists, keeping the offense flowing all match long.
Demi Winters led the way offensively with 11 kills on a .529 hitting mark, while Adriana Aguayo hit at a .292 clip with 13 kills. In addition, Avari Ridgway notched seven kills for the Warriors on a .333 attacking mark, showing consistency in each of her swings.
