No. 19 Warrior VB Loses to Pair of Top-10 Teams at Red Raider Classic

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 19-ranked Corban University volleyball team battled against a pair of NAIA top-10 ranked teams on Friday at the Red Raider Classic, but the Warriors came up short in both bouts, falling in straight sets to No. 9-ranked Grand View University (25-21, 25-20, 25-11) and No. 2-ranked Dordt College (25-21, 25-19, 25-15).

"This team has shown such determination, continuing to fight," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "Facing tough competition this weekend, I have seen huge growth in this young team and look forward to tomorrow's matches."

The Navy and Gold struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the first match of the Red Raider Classic on Friday, hitting for just a .075 mark overall with just 35 kills while racking up 26 errors. At the net, Grand View held the advantage with 14 blocks to just three for the Warriors.

Adriana Aguayo and Cassie Cunningham both recorded eight kills in the loss, while Tori Edwards tallied six. Kealani Ontai racked up 20 digs to lead all players in the match defensively.

In the second match of the day, the Warriors came up against a talented Dordt squad that showed their abilities at the net, totaling 13 blocks to Corban's four. The Warriors once again recorded a number of errors as a team attacking, tallying 23 in all while notching just 35 kills.

Aguayo and Avari Ridgway both finished with double-digit kill marks of 11 and 10, respectively, while Cierra Leopoldino and Jadyn Mullen combined for 31 assists to keep the offense flowing against the stout Dordt defense.

Corban (2-5) returns to the hardwood on Saturday for matches against #18 Doane and unranked Baker. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. CT.
