SALEM, Ore. – The No. 19-ranked Corban University volleyball team swept No. 18-ranked Doane University (Neb.) on Saturday afternoon before then blowing past Baker University (Kan.) in the evening, capping off the Red Raider Classic with a bang.
"I am proud of the team, competing at a very high level coming out with two wins today," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "We look forward to making our way home and continuing to improve on the little things."
Corban blew past No. 18-ranked Doane in the first match of the day (25-14, 25-22, 25-22), never allowing Doane to even have the inkling of being able to keep up with the Warriors.
Cassie Cunningham continued her strong start to her rookie campaign, leading the way with 12 kills for the Navy and Gold. Both Adriana Aguayo and Avari Ridgway complemented Cunningham with eight kills apiece.
Cierra Leopoldino proved effective with 22 assists in the win, while Jadyn Mullen chipped in 13. Defensively, Kealani Ontai racked up a team-leading 17 digs for the Navy and Gold. At the net, Demi Winters and Tori Edwards combined for seven blocks in the triumph.
In the nightcap victory over Baker, the Warriors blasted the Wildcats (25-17, 25-14, 25-17) in straight sets, hitting at a season-best mark of .403 offensively. Adriana Aguayo was absolutely on fire, smashing 16 kills on a .500 attacking percentage and Cassie Cunningham added nine kills on a .400 hitting mark. In addition, Avari Ridgway was the most efficient of the three, hitting at a .600 clip with seven kills.
Defensively, it was Madison Pfaff who hit double-digits in digs with 10, while the combo of Cierra Leopoldino and Jadyn Mullen combined for 35 assists.
Corban (4-5) returns to Salem this next week for its first official home matches of the 2018 campaign. Corban begins Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play on Friday when it hosts Warner Pacific University. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
