KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Corban University volleyball team outplayed and outlasted the Oregon Tech Owls on Friday night in four sets (26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16). While playing in front of the traveling Warrior soccer teams, Corban won the important first match of the road trip down south over the weekend.
"It is always great to get a win on the road in a tough Cascade Collegiate Conference," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "We must continue to minimize our unforced errors! Big shout out to our men's and women's soccer teams that came out to support in a huge way! So fun to be a part of Warrior Nation!"
While coming from behind in set one, the Warriors won a thrilling first stanza, 26-24. That momentum continued into set two with another set triumph, this time by four points.
The Owls responded in set three with a four-point set win themselves, but Corban came back flying in set four, closing out strong to win by nine points and claim the match.
In what turned out to be a defensive battle, Corban hit for a .138 attack percentage overall, but held Oregon Tech to a .135 attacking mark. The Warriors finished with 58 total kills on the evening, as compared to just 38 for Oregon Tech.
Demi Winters was Corban's most efficient player on the night, totaling 10 kills on a .471 hitting mark. Regan Murray was also effective with 11 kills on a .308 hitting mark, while Cassie Cunningham and Adriana Aguayo combined to chip in 23 kills.
Defensively, Lauren Condon was outstanding with 16 digs, while Kealani Ontai tallied 15 digs. In addition, Jadyn Mullen and Cierra Leopoldino combined to dish out 33 assists in the victory.
Corban (10-7, 6-2 CCC) returns to the court tomorrow against No. 9-ranked Southern Oregon University. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
