ASHLAND, Ore. – The (RV) Corban University volleyball team went toe-to-toe with the No. 9-ranked team in the NAIA on Saturday evening, but the Warriors ultimately fell short in five sets (25-17, 23-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-12) against the Southern Oregon University Raiders in the tough loss.
"I am proud of the team and how they battled, taking SOU into a close fifth set," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "We look forward to getting back in the gym, continuing to work!"
Southern Oregon proved to be more efficient overall on the night, hitting for a .308 attacking mark while holding Corban to just a .253 hitting percentage. In addition, the Raiders held the edge in blocks (11-5) and aces (9-3), with some of those proving crucial in multiple sets.
The Warriors did rack more digs on the night with 58, as Kealani Ontai led the way with 25 for the Navy and Gold.
Offensively, the rookie duo of Avari Ridgway and Cassie Cunningham both swung for 12 kills, while no other Warrior was able to tally double-digit kills. In addition, Jadyn Mullen totaled 29 assists to lead the way for Corban in the category.
Southern Oregon (17-1, 10-1 CCC) extended its lead in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings with the win, snapping a four-match losing streak against Corban.
Corban (10-8, 6-3 CCC) returns to the court next week when it travels north to take on Multnomah University on Friday and Warner Pacific University on Saturday.
