Owl Offense Explodes for 21 Total Runs as Corban Baseball Falls Twice to OIT

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Kiger Stadium continues to be a tough place for the Corban University baseball team to win at, as the Warriors dropped both of Saturday afternoon's games against the Oregon Tech Owls, 13-1 and 8-2. Corban has not won a series on the road against in-state rival Oregon Tech since 2015.

"We will be back at it tomorrow," said head coach Derek Legg.

It didn't take long for the Owls to take the lead in game one, as Oregon Tech plated six runs in the bottom half of the first to stake a commanding early advantage. It wouldn't be the only crooked number hung up by the Owls in the series-opening triumph, as the home team put up added to its lead with two-spot in the third and a four-spot in the fourth.

Tristan Shea (2-for-4, four RBIs) and Austin Florez (3-for-4, two runs, two RBIs) each launched home runs in the Oregon Tech victory, serving as two of the Owls' five multi-hit performers in game one.

Command issues plagued the Navy and Gold pitching staff, as the Warrior arms handed out seven free passes and hit two opposing batters in the loss.

In contrast, Owl ace John Schulz appeared nigh-unsolvable on the mound, hurling seven innings of three-hit ball and allowing just one unearned run.

Oregon Tech jumped ahead in the first inning of game two, as well, striking for a pair of runs off Corban's game-two starter, Zachary Filos. An additional run in the second, alongside three more in the fourth, made it a 6-0 ballgame heading into the final innings.

Despite collecting 12 hits, the Warrior offense wouldn't get on the board until the seventh, when Nate Cantonwine scored on a wild pitch and Tanner Marsh ripped a run-scoring single through the middle.

The Owls would get those runs right back in the eighth, however, rounding out the 8-2 final tally.

Since the Warriors' last series win at Kiger Stadium in 2015, the Owls have averaged almost seven and a half runs per game.

Corban will look to bounce back in another NAIA-West doubleheader down in Klamath Falls tomorrow, with the action slated to begin at 11 a.m.
