Corban Men’s Basketball Suffers Tight Loss to I-5 Rival Bushnell

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University men's basketball team was topped by Bushnell, 71-69, in a riveting Cascade Collegiate Conference opener for both squads. In a game that saw no team lead by more than six, the Warriors had two chances in the last 10 seconds to tie or take the lead but could not find the bottom of the net.

"Bushnell played great tonight," said head coach Taylor Kelly. "We couldn't quite manufacture enough stops to get the job done, which is something our program has been able to do with consistency. We will assess how we can fix some of the areas we need to improve and get better. I love our group. They are tough and they play hard."

In a contest that saw nine lead changes, the Warriors shot 28-of-60 (46.7%) from the floor and yet again showcased their depth as all 10 players who appeared in the game registered at least two points. The defensive effort was also up to par, as the Warriors forced 15 Bushnell turnovers and capitalized by scoring 21 points off the takeaways to jumpstart their offensive effort. On the flip side, the Beacons found scoring success from beyond the arc, as they went 11-of-17 (47.1%) from three. Meanwhile, the Navy and Gold were held to just 5-of-17 (29.4%) from deep.

Kendall Moore (15 PTS, 6-of-9 FG) and Jordan Newt (12 PTS, 5-of-13 FG) reached double-digits for the Warriors. Meanwhile the reserves played a major role in the offensive effort for Corban as the bench combined for 23 points, led by Josiah Roth (9 PTS, 4-of-6 FG).

For the visiting Beacons, Drayton Caoile led all scorers with 19 points on an outstanding 5-of-5 from beyond the arc. Stevie Schlabach (15 PTS) and Jarrett Bryant (11 PTS) also scored in double figures for Bushnell.

The Warriors (4-3, 0-1) will return to Tim Hills Court inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center on Friday at 2 p.m. as they play host to visiting Ottawa University (Ariz.) at the Corban Classic Tournament.
