Newt’s Buzzer-Beater Lifts Warrior Men’s Hoops to 80-77 Exhibition Win over WOU

MONMOUTH, Ore. – A buzzer-beating three-pointer from the top of the key courtesy of Jordan Newt lifted the Corban University men's basketball team to an 80-77 exhibition victory over NCAA Division II foe Western Oregon University on Saturday.

"Our guys went to battle tonight against a good Western Oregon team," said head coach Taylor Kelly. "We really dug in defensively in the second half and got some crucial stops to finish out the game."

Newt has earned himself a reputation for making big baskets when the squad needs it most, as many will remember his unforgettable buzzer-beater against Bushnell last spring. Saturday's game-winner only further adds to the veteran's pedigree, as the Navy and Gold stunned the Wolves on their home court.

"Jordan's belief and leadership came through for us in a big way," Taylor added, speaking on the senior guard. "He hit an incredible shot to secure the win."

Mateo Escheik led the Navy and gold with 17 points on an efficient 7-of-10 shooting performance. Newt ended just behind him with 15 points and a trio of assists, while fellow guard Taylor Anderson ended the day with 14 points and four assists.

Efficient and effective in 16 valuable minutes, Josiah Roth scored 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting, rounding out the four Warriors in double figures.

It was a counting content for Western Oregon, which shot a sizzling 28-45 (62.2) from the field and went 7-17 (41.2) from three in the heartbreaking defeat.

Corban (6-5) will resume Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) competition next Friday and Saturday, hitting the road for pivotal conference battles with Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon.
