LA GRANDE, Ore. – For the second-straight day, the Corban University women's lacrosse team flexed its muscles in an exhibition match against Eastern Oregon University. This time, the Navy and Gold claimed an 18-4 win against the Mountaineers in the seven-on-seven battle.
Eastern Oregon is in the beginning stages of developing a women's lacrosse team of its own, and this weekend's matchups serve as an exciting foreshadowing of what could potentially become an official Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) sport somewhere down the road.
"We are very pleased with the turn out of our first 'conference' matchup," said head coach Kylie McMinn. "I think today points to a future where Corban women's lacrosse tops the CCC, once it solidifies. I'm very impressed with the grit we showed today, especially with this being our second game of the weekend. We're looking forward to coming back strong after a well-deserved spring break."
Meredith Pinkerton and Sydney Davis led the offensive onslaught, tallying four goals apiece in the morning matchup. Registering hat tricks, Geneen Impreso and Sarah Whitbey were also exceptional offensively, while Liliana Ridgon and Joanna Wattimena each found the back of the net, as well.
Key to the Warriors' attacking success was the ability to win the battle of possession, with Devyn Davis playing a key role in that process by earning 14 draw controls to Eastern Oregon's Marisol Trevino's four. She also notched a brace in the exhibition triumph.
Payton Nuse turned in yet another strong performance in goal, tallying 12 saves as the Navy and Gold limited the Mountaineers to just nine total scores over the course of the two-game series.
The Warriors (1-2) will now enjoy a three-week hiatus before returning to action, heading up to Tacoma, Wash. to face off with Pacific Lutheran University on April 10.
