BOX SCORE TACOMA, Wash. – Returning to the field for its second contest of the season, the Corban University women's lacrosse team's comeback attempt against NCAA Division III University of Puget Sound fell just short on Sunday, with the Loggers holding on for an 11-8 victory.
At this time, an official box score from the event is unavailable.
"We are glad to have our second game as a program under our belt," said head coach Kylie McMinn. "We had more variation on offense and communication on defense, and ultimately, we closed the gap in the score each run. We are focused on putting in work together for the duration of the season."
Puget Sound scored five times in the first 10 minutes, taking a commanding early lead in the contest.
Unfazed, the Navy and Gold began slowly chipping away at the deficit, trailing 8-4 at the half.
Sydney Davis got the scoring started for the squad, continuing her hot offensive start with a goal 12 minutes in. A minute and a half later, Sarah Whitbey found the back of the net, continuing to build on Corban's momentum.
With ten minutes until the half, Geneen Impreso opened her Warrior account, while Davis' second score of the duel—assisted by Whitbey—rounded out Corban's first-half offense.
The blistering Davis struck twice in the span of three minutes to help the Navy and Gold storm out of the gates in the second half. Impreso then brought the Warriors within one, making it an 8-7 contest with just under 20 minutes left in regulation.
Unfortunately, the Loggers added a trio of insurance goals to pad their cushion. Impreso would strike again with less than a minute remaining, but it wouldn't be enough in the end, as Puget Sound withstood Corban's comeback attempt en route to the 11-8 victory.
Davis' four goals only further showcase her elite attacking ability, while Impreso's hat trick gives Warrior fans another exciting offensive weapon to keep tabs on. Overall, the result is a major step in the right direction, as the Navy and Gold continues to develop and grow in its pursuit of the program's first triumph.
Corban (0-2) will have a couple of days to rest before returning to action, traveling to Forest Grove, Ore. on Wednesday to challenge Pacific University. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
