LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Corban University women's lacrosse team concluded its inaugural season with a bang on Sunday, cruising past Eastern Oregon University (17-5) in a seven-on-seven exhibition match in La Grande.
"This final game was the best-played game we've had all season," said head coach Kylie McMinn. "We had incredible chemistry on the field, offensively and defensively. We played very unselfishly and has six different scorers. It was a perfect way to finish the season, and it will be a perfect segue into a strong second season."
The Warriors led wire-to-wire in the win, earning their third exhibition win over the Mountaineers this season.
Sydney Davis put an exclamation point on an incredible debut season with the Navy and Gold, leading the squad with seven goals in the triumph. Sarah Whitbey added four goals of her own, while also securing a draw control.
Scoring a pair of goals each, Geneen Impreso and Devyn Davis made their presences felt on the offensive end, while Davis' 17 draw control wins helped the Warriors maintain possession and set the tempo throughout Sunday's contest.
In goal, Payton Nuse registered seven saves, as the Corban defense once again suffocated the Mountaineer attack. Corban outscored Eastern by a daunting 54-14 margin in their three meetings in 2021.
Overall, Corban finishes 1-2 in its three countable matchups this spring. The squad's first official win on March 10 against Pacific University will long be remembered, marking an exciting milestone for the first-year program.
Closing the campaign with three-consecutive exhibition triumphs against an in-state rival, the team's impressive race to the finish line points to a bright future for the Navy and Gold in the Pacific Northwest.
"I am so proud of this inaugural squad for the foundation it has laid for this program," McMinn said, reflecting on the team's first season and the road ahead.
