PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 20-ranked Corban University men's soccer team returned to the pitch for an exhibition match against NCAA Division I University of Portland on Friday evening. The Navy and Gold fought valiantly under the lights at Merle Field, surrendering three second-half goals in a 3-1 defeat to the Pilots.

Due to the contest's exhibition status, a final box score has not been provided.

It didn't take long for Corban to draw first blood in the exhibition bout, as Andres Labate capitalized on a sloppy giveaway from Portland to give the Navy and Gold an early 1-0 lead in just the 4^th minute.

That lead remained until the midway point, helped by a number of impressive saves from 2020 NAIA All-American Honorable Mention goalkeeper Justin Keegan.

The Pilots finally broke through 17 minutes into the second half, equalizing in the 63^rd minute. The hometown squad then took the lead in the 76^th minute, converting a penalty kick opportunity to jump in front.

As time wound down, UP found the back of the net for a third time to extend the lead to 3-1 in the 86^th minute, putting the game out of reach in the match's final moments.

Regardless of the final outcome, Friday's performance demonstrates the level of talent the Warriors possess, playing stride-for-stride with a NCAA Division I side.

The Warriors will now look ahead to their first official match of the 2021 fall campaign, which is set to take place next Saturday (August 28) at Sparks Field against crosstown rival Willamette University.
