SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University men's soccer team is set to officially begin its season on Saturday. Corban University director of soccer Tim Kagey has added 15 new freshmen to the already-talented roster, with a brief summary of each addition's high school accomplishments listed below.
Mark Ramdeen – 5'6" – Midfielder – Naparima College – Siparia, Trinidad and Tobago
Coming to Corban from across the world, Ramdeen joins the Warriors prepared to make a difference in the midfield. During his time at Naparima College, Ramdeen demonstrated impressive skill scoring five goals in 10 games and notching six assists. He was also named MVP in 2018.
Ramdeen intends to major in kinesiology while at Corban.
Alexis Luna – 5'9" – Midfielder – South Salem HS – Salem, Ore.
Hailing from Salem, Ore, Luna hopes to make an immediate impact in the Warrior midfield, after an exceptional high school career, during which he earned numerous awards including Highest Goal Scorer, Team MVP, Player of the Conference, and three First-Team All-League awards. Luna also notched two state championships with the Capital FC Timbers.
Luna is set to major in mathematics at Corban and hopes to work as a mathematician in the future.
Julian Lopez – 5'5" – Midfielder – Cascade HS – Turner, Ore.
Lopez joins the Warrior squad after a successful career at Cascade High School in Turner, Ore. During his time there, Lopez earned multiple All-League plaudits, and is prepared to join the Navy and Gold's midfield.
Lopez plans to major in business at Corban.
Jimmy Martin – 5'8" – Defender – Webss HS – Woodburn, Ore.
Martin comes to Corban after attending Webss High School, serving as a four-year varsity defender. Martin comes to Corban no stranger to winning, as he was an integral part of a Capital Futbol Club state championship team.
Martin intends to study business at Corban.
Edson Jimenez – 6'0" – Defender – Clackamas HS – Portland, Ore.
Jimenez is set to begin his Corban career after a successful stint as a member of the Clackamas High School soccer team in nearby Clackamas, Ore.
Jimenez is looking forward to exploring his degree options at Corban.
Joseph Nunez– 5'8" – Midfielder – Corvallis HS – Corvallis, Ore.
Hailing from Corvallis, Ore., Nunez brings impressive athleticism to the Navy and Gold. While at Corvallis High School, Nunez competed in both track and soccer all four years. In 2018, Nunez and his teammates played until the final day of the fall season and came away Oregon State Champions.
While at Corban, Nunez plans to major in marketing.
Miguel Gaytan – 5'4" – Defender – McNary HS – Keizer, Ore.
A gifted defender, Gaytan joins the Navy and Gold after serving as a standout athlete at nearby McNary High School. During his four-year tenure, he notched many starts, and All-League plaudits in his senior season.
Gaytan plans to major in Education while at Corban.
Elijah Gish – 5'7" – Midfielder – Sequim HS – Sequim, Wash.
Gish hopes to strengthen the Warrior midfield, bringing exceptional athleticism to the Navy and Gold. While in high school, he competed in two different sports, while notching a Team MVP awards for both cross-country and soccer. In addition, he was the leading scorer during his senior season of soccer, notching 16 goals and four assists.
Gish intends to major in digital media at Corban, with hopes of pursuing social media marketing and filmmaking in the future.
Irwin Leon – 5'8" – Midfielder – Marist HS – Eugene, Ore.
Leon, the Eugene native, aims to make an impact for the Warrior midfield. While at Marist High School, Leon and the rest of the Spartan squad earned three league titles, and Leon garnered multiple all-league honors, was named Freshman of the Year in 2017, and was an all-state selection.
Leon plans to major in business at Corban, while pursuing a career in accounting.
Trey Cantrell – 5'6" – Midfielder – Skyview HS – Nampa, Idaho
Cantrell comes to Corban after competing at Skyview High School in Nampa, Idaho. During his time there, he collected a number of accolades and was a four-year defender for the Hawks.
Planning to become an accountant, Cantrell is set to major in business at Corban.
Manuel Pina – 6'0" – Defender – Canterbury HS – Fort Myers, Fla.
Pina is set to begin his Corban career after a successful stint as a member of the Canterbury High School soccer and lacrosse teams in Fort Meyers, Fla. In his time there, Pina earned academic athlete honors, was named an All-American Academic Athlete, and led his team to a state championship.
Pina intends to study business management and analytics while at Corban.
Christian Morales – 5'16" – Midfielder – Newberg HS – Newberg, Ore.
Morales Mora brings a strong skill-set to the Warrior midfield. A First-Team All-League honoree in high school, he led his team to a league championship in his freshman season, and garnered three other all-league plaudits during his tenure the Newberg High School Tigers.
Morales Mora plans to major in business administration at Corban.
Elijah Schramek – 5'10" – Goalkeeper – Klahowya Secondary – Seabeck, Wash.
Hailing from Seabeck, Wash., Schramek hopes to make an impact for the Navy and Gold. Throughout his high school career, Schramek's goals against average was 0.92 and he notched 108 saves in 12 games played. The Washington native was also a team captain and earned a plethora of accolades including Team MVP, the Coaches Award, and was voted Most Inspirational by his teammates.
Schramek plans to major in sports management in hopes of someday being the General Manager of a professional soccer team.
Gerardo Lopez – 5'11" – Forward – Riverside HS – Boardman, Ore.
Gerardo Lopez joins the Warriors looking to make an impact up top. A gifted athlete, Lopez will join Corban's offensive attack after a successful career at Riverside High School in Boardman, Ore., where he played both basketball and soccer.
Lopez intends to major in sports medicine at Corban, with hopes of becoming a physical therapist in the future.
Landon Moore – 6'3" – Defender – Western Christian HS – Salem, Ore.
Moore, another local standout, joins the Warrior defense this season. Hailing from Western Christian High School in Salem, Ore., Moore adds versatility and finesse to the Navy and Gold's arsenal.
Moore plans to major in kinesiology at Corban.
