Meet the Newcomers: Corban Men’s Soccer Bolstered with Eight Transfers

SALEM, Ore. – Set to officially begin the 2021 fall season on Saturday against crosstown rival Willamette University, the Corban University men's soccer team is primed and ready to compete for another Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) title this fall.

There will be a number of new faces on the pitch for the Navy and Gold this year, including a talented batch of eight transfer student-athletes who bring both talent and experience to the squad.

Learn a little about each of the eight transfers below.

Giacomo Sanvitale – 6'0" – Midfielder – Central Methodist University/Saint Louis CC – Saronno, Italy

One of two additions to come to Salem from Italy, Sanvitale knows what it means to succeed at the highest levels of competition. In 2018, he was a part of the NAIA National Champion Central Methodist University team, before competing most recently at Saint Louis Community College, where he also won a title at the junior-college level.

Sanvitale plans to study business management while attending Corban.

Saad Mohacht – 6'1" – Midfielder – Monroe College/Wofford College – Feltre, Italy

Another transfer who originally hails from Italy, Mohacht brings an impressive pedigree to the Navy and Gold roster. His collegiate career has included stops at Central Methodist, Monroe College in New York, and Wofford College in South Carolina. During his time at those schools, he was named a First-Team All-Region honoree, First-Team All-Conference award-winner, Team MVP, Male Athlete of the Year, and ranked third nationally in assists.

Mohacht intends to major in business administration during his time at Corban.

Andres Labate – 5'10" – Midfielder/Forward – West Salem HS/Gonzaga Univ. – Salem, Ore.

Returning to his hometown after a stint at NCAA Division I Gonzaga University, Labate adds another dangerous weapon to Corban's offensive arsenal. In nine games played for the Bulldogs last year, he scored a goal and notched an assist. Prior to that, he was the 2020 Player of the Year while at West Salem High School, where he was a two-time First-Team All-League honoree, First-Team All-State award-winner, and record holder for both goals and assists.

While at Corban, Labate plans to hone his studies in business.

Trevor Mendenhall – 6'1" – Defender – Rincon Valley Christian HS/Biola Univ. – Forestville, Calif.

A gifted and versatile athlete, Mendenhall comes to Salem after competing at NCAA Division II Biola University. Prior to his time there, he was a standout multi-sport star at Rincon Valley Christian High School, where he was a two-time First-Team All-League honoree on the pitch and Second-Team All-League award-winner on the basketball court.

Mendenhall intends to major in kinesiology while at Corban.

Alvaro Arche – 5'9" – Midfielder – Institut Gorgs/Universidad de Autonoma de Barcelona – Barcelona, Spain

Another high-profile international signing, Arche hails from Barcelona, Spain. With experience and success at elite levels of competition, Arche won the Deep South Division Championship while playing for Tormenta FC 2 in 2018, a squad that competes in the hyper competitive USL League 2.

Arche plans to study business while at Corban.

Reggie Reyes – 5'10" – Forward – Woodburn HS/Concordia Univ. – Woodburn, Ore.

Reyes is a local product with a stellar résumé from his time competing in high school in Oregon. Before spending time at Concordia University, Reyes excelled on the pitch at nearby Woodburn High School, where he was the 5A All-State Player of the Year, the Mid-Willamette Conference Player of the Year, a 2016 State Champion, and a 5A All-State First-Team honoree.

During his time at Corban, he intends to hone his studies in business.

Jairo Aguirre – 5'7" – Midfielder/Defender – Woodburn HS/North Idaho College – Woodburn, Ore.

Another graduate of Woodburn High School, Aguirre transfers to Corban after competing at North Idaho College. Aguirre plans to study elementary education while at the university.

Bryan Nicolas – 5'6" – Midfielder – McKay HS/Willamette Univ. – Salem, Ore.

Making the short trek across town, Nicolas joins the Navy and Gold after competing at crosstown rival Willamette University. He was a standout on and off the pitch there, earning Spring Semester College Honors for having a 3.75 GPA or higher. Prior to his time with the Bearcats, Nicolas was a two-time All-Conference honoree at McKay High School, as well as a State Champion at the club level with CFC.
