FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The (RV) Corban University Men's Wrestling team muscled their way through yet another early season tournament today, as the Warriors saw multiple wrestlers reach the podium at the Mike Clock Open, hosted by Pacific University.
"Our team was led by #2 ranked David and #17 ranked Tyson, who both came away with tournament titles! Another step in the right direction by this young Warrior squad!" Corban Head Coach Kary Hadden said after the conclusion of today's tournament.
The Mike Clock Open featured over 20 teams from across the pacific northwest, including parts of Canada and even a club team from Michigan. From the Cascade Collegiate Conference, Corban was joined by No. 8 Eastern Oregon University, No. 20 Southern Oregon University, and Warner Pacific University.
The Warriors saw five different student-athletes reach the podium this afternoon, starting in the 125-weight class with freshman Brayden Boyd reaching the 1st-place match. Boyd, who was previously undefeated on the season, took his first loss of the year in a 9-3 decision against SOU's Simon Graeber.
Jumping ahead to the 149-class, senior Michael Murphy earned himself a spot in the top six, to wrestle in the 3rd-4th place match. He earned himself a Top 3 finish after a medical forfeit kept his opponent from reaching the mat.
Warriors' redshirt sophomore and No 2. ranked David Rubio for the 165-weight class earned himself another individual tournament title by defeating Simon Fraser University's Patrik Leder in a 6-3 decision.
Meanwhile, sophomore Tyson Stover climbed to the top of the podium for his first individual tourney crown thus far this season, winning by decision over Southern Oregon's Benjiman Hughes by a final score of 7-4.
Capping off the Corban representation was transfer junior Sven Lukner, who continued his impressive collegiate wrestling debut year with a third place finish in the 285-class. Lukner defeated yet another Raider on the mat for the Warriors in the third-place match, escaping with a narrow 3-1 decision.
Corban Men's Wrestling will host two huge CCC dual meets next week, as the Warriors will welcome the No. 8 Mountaineers and No. 20 Southern Oregon University Raiders on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Corban will also host Southwestern Oregon Community College on Saturday alongside the Raiders.
