Twait, Garcia Advance to National Quarterfinals Following Day One of NAIA Championships

WICHITA, Kan. – Of the five Warriors competing at the 2026 NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championships this week for the No. 23-ranked Corban University Men's Wrestling team, two of them saw their postseason runs survive the day one gauntlet and extend deeper into the championship bracket, while the other three saw their 2025-26 journeys come to an end. From a team point perspective, the Warriors have scored 8.0 team points to sit in 28th overall entering day two tomorrow morning.

The Navy and Gold's only unranked wrestlers among the five that clinched national qualification status in 2025-26 were unable to submit team points today in their respective weight classes, as seniors Blake Runion (141) and Asaiah Kamplain (197) both saw their national tournament appearances shortened following championship bracket and consolation bracket opening round losses.

Senior Jr Downing, the final seeded grappler at 149lbs, was able to advance to the second round of the championship bracket following a 10-2 major decision over St. Ambrose University's Joshua Zeman but suffered back-to-back losses to the No. 1-seeded wrestler for his weight class and in the second consolation round to end his national run.

Both junior Isaiah Twait (184) and redshirt senior Antonio Garcia (285) went 2-0 on opening day as they look to repeat as All-Americans as top six nationally seeded wrestlers. Twait secured a 4-1 decision over Marian University's Noah Hollendonner followed by a 12-2 major decision against Georgetown College's Doug Dittmer, while Garcia picked up extra team points in his 8-0 major decision shutout of Indiana Tech's Ian Clifford before avoiding a second round upset to unseeded Daguy Massillon of Keiser University where he needed to win via ultimate tiebreaker.

Tomorrow, Twait and Garcia will compete in the national quarterfinal stage, where they can earn national semifinalist status if they can beat their seeded opponents. Twait is scheduled to battle Southern Oregon University's Adrian Chavez-Morales, who has gone 2-0 against Twait in 2025-26 due to injury default and medical forfeit, which was in the 2026 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championship match. Meanwhile, Garcia will face a conference opponent in No. 14-seeded Ethan DeRoche from the University of Providence, who Garcia has not faced this season after the two grapplers never met in the CCC Tournament. Garcia finished one slot ahead of DeRoche in the final bracket, fourth versus fifth.
