Garcia and Twait Eye All-American Finishes Entering Final Day of NAIA National Championships

WICHITA, Kan. – Both the only two remaining student-athletes at the 2026 NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championships went 1-1 on the day for the No. 23-ranked Corban University Men's Wrestling team, as redshirt senior Antonio Garcia and junior Isaiah Twait each picked up massive quarterfinal victories before falling in their respective weight class semifinals. Despite the championship round losses, both Navy and Gold grapplers are guaranteed at worst sixth-place finishes, which will result in All-American honors tomorrow on the final day of the national tournament.

Beginning at 184lbs with Twait, two of his four losses on the season entering the national tourney came at the hands of Southern Oregon University's Adrian Chavez-Morales, who he matched up with in the national quarterfinals ranked right next to one another in seeding. After giving up the first takedown 15 seconds into the bout, Twait earned his one escape point and saw Chavez-Morales earn his first of four stall penalties for the match.

Twait chose down on the first choice and immediately escaped to pull within a point, and yet another stall warning resulted in the match-tying point for Twait. Despite choosing down and escaping in the third period, Chavez-Morales would be called for two more stalling penalties, which resulted in three more points for Twait in a 6-4 decision.

A rematch with one of the only other wrestlers to best Twait head-to-head this season, Doane University's Tyson Beauperthuy, was on deck in the national semifinals, yet back-to-back takedowns to end the first period put Twait in a massive hole that he was unable to recover from in a 15-5 major decision. Twait will now battle No. 2-seeded Kendall Norfleet of Life University tomorrow morning in the consolation semifinals.

At the heavyweight class, Garcia needed to best No. 14-seeded Ethan DeRoche from fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) member University of Providence if he wanted to book a trip to the national semifinals, which he managed to accomplish following a busy second period where he escaped, scored a takedown, and was penalized for stalling in the two-minute period. In the third, Garcia allowed DeRoche to earn his escape point and locked up the 7-2 decision win with ten seconds remaining via a takedown.

In another matchup of CCC heavyweight favorites, Garcia and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Kenneth Copley somehow managed to avoid each other all season long in conference action, yet finally met on the national stage when it mattered most. An absolute scrap between Garcia and Copley narrowly leaned ERAU's direction after Garcia's reversal to tie the match at 2-2 was negated with Copley's extra point for riding time. Garcia will face Jordan Sommers from Keiser University tomorrow in the consolation semifinals with a spot in the third-place bout on the line.
