SALEM, Ore. – Corban University director of athletics Sue Roth announced on Thursday that Corban has tabbed Ethan Bragg to be the next head coach of the Warrior baseball program. Bragg—who currently serves as the head assistant coach and recruiting coordinator of the team—will assume head coaching duties upon Derek Legg's departure after the 2022 season.
"I am happy to announce that Ethan has accepted our offer to be the next head baseball coach at Corban University," said athletic director Sue Roth. "He went through an extensive interview process and came out on top of a very strong candidate pool. We anticipate great things for the baseball program, as he has already proven himself a respected coach and leader. Ethan's desire to grow as an individual in all areas of his life, and his unique skillset and knowledge of the game will keep this program moving in the upward trajectory it has been on."
No stranger to the program, Bragg has served on the Navy and Gold coaching staff since 2018, and is an alum of the program himself.
During his own playing career at Corban, Bragg won a pair of NAIA West Gold Gloves as an outfielder and also holds second-place in the Corban record books for doubles in a season with 18.
"I am incredible thankful for the opportunity to stay with Corban baseball and continue to build upon the foundation we have established in the past few years," said Bragg. "First, I'd like to thank Sue Roth and the rest of the hiring committee for entrusting me to lead the program moving forward. I'd also like to thank Derek Legg for his mentorship and guidance over the past several years. Lastly, my family has been incredibly supportive of my vision and passion as a coach, and I wouldn't be here without their endless support."
As a coach, he has been an integral piece of the Warrior staff over the past few seasons, overseeing the team's recruiting efforts in 2021-22. He has been the 'right-hand man' of Legg over the past several years, and has played a crucial role in the squad's success—which included its first-ever NAIA National Tournament appearance last spring.
"I couldn't be more excited that Bragg will be the next head coach of the program," said Legg. "He has been instrumental in the last couple of years in growing the program on and off the field. It has been a pleasure to witness his growth as a man and as a leader. There is no doubt in my mind that he will continue to improve Warrior baseball."
Additionally, Bragg has served as the assistant tournament director for Baseball Northwest, an organization that facilitates high school player development for thousands of high school baseball players in the Northwest.
"I am excited to be able to continue our pattern of growth spiritually, academically, and athletically within the program," Bragg added. "Our players have worked hard and we will continue to strive for excellence on and off the field. It is an exciting time for Corban athletics and I look forward to bringing glory to Christ through our baseball program."
Bragg will transition into the head coaching role at the conclusion of the 2022 season.
