Schmidt Competes on Day One at NAIA Championships

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Valerie Schmidt represented Corban in day one of the heptathlon, but due to inclement weather Gracie Long and Robert Swoboda's races have been postponed until tomorrow.

Valerie Schmidt found herself in second place after day one's events. The Battle Ground native placed second in the 100m hurdles after Lauren Tamayo who is leading all heptathletes with a score of 3173. Schmidt has 3047 points after her third-place finish in the 200m dash and fourth-place finishes in both the high jump and the shot put. She will compete again tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. PDT.

Bos commented, Valerie had a good first day at nationals. A top-three finish is definitely within reach. God continues to bless Valerie's efforts as she continues to compete for His glory."

Schmidt will begin competition again tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. local time, while Long's race is scheduled for 11:50 a.m. and Swoboda's at 10:15 p.m. local time.
