Corban Track & Field Honors Eleven Seniors at Second Annual Berney Classic

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University Track & Field program hosted their second annual Nancy & Norm Berney Classic, where the Warriors were able to honor their eleven senior student-athletes amid a busy day at the Outdoor Athletic Complex (OAC) that featured yet another national qualifier, seven new Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) qualifying marks, and six all-time record book holders up and down their respective events.

"We had a glorious but windy day for our home meet today," explained Warriors' head coach Todd Bos earlier this evening. "Lots of great marks, new conference qualifiers, another national qualifier, and tons of support from family and friends. Our team is rounding into shape as the important meets are quickly approaching. We are looking forward to what the next few weeks bring."

Bos carried on with his thoughts on today's meet by sharing, "It was also a bit of a sad day as we begin the process of saying goodbye to a great group of seniors. The Lord blessed our team by bringing the group to Corban. They have left their mark and will be sorely missed. Being able to host this meet at the OAC is a huge blessing from the Lord. Many thanks to the people who made this venue happen."

Among their families and friends, the Navy and Gold honored eleven senior student-athletes who all competed in their final home meet as Warriors following the last event of the day at the OAC. Those honored today by the Corban track & field programs included: distance runner Abigail Miller, distance runner Myana Stock, thrower Madelynn Straus, distance runner Josie Rothman, sprinter/jumper Kirsten Kuenzi, jumper Kayla Morgan, distance runner Luke Harkey, distance runner Noah Andres, distance runner Nathan Pfaff, distance runner Zander Moha, and sprinter DJ Armstead.

Of the senior performances from the day, Rothman was the only individual to either clinch a qualifying mark or a new record book top ten mark, as she finished the women's 800m with a personal best 2:19.55 to move up to fifth all-time in program history. Joining Rothman with a new top ten mark in the women's high jump was junior Shaelee Killorn who was right behind her at 2:20.02, which is seventh-best all-time and a qualifying mark for the CCC meet next month.

For the third time this school year, sophomore jumper Oliver Reis clinched a national qualifying mark, as he flew to the fifth-best leap across the country to date in the men's triple jump at 15.43m to book his ticket to the NAIA Track & Field Championships near the end of May, which simultaneously qualifies him for the conference meet as well. While the wind was too high for his mark to be considered in the Warriors' record book, his 15.35m jump earlier with slower wind will set the new outdoor record instead. With high winds causing issues all day, Kuenzi's event-winning long jump of 5.51m would have set a new school record in the event by a single centimeter to join Reis as setting new event records today at the foot of Corban's campus.

Also earning CCC qualifying marks today was freshman Ava Barnett (women's 400m – 59.29), freshman Amelia Anstrand (women's 3,000m steeplechase – 12:42.70), freshman Kate Dickson (women's 3,000m steeplechase – 12:43.00), redshirt junior Abigail Oosterhout (women's 10,000m race – 40:37.14), freshman Adaline McDowell (women's 10,000m race – 40:56.46), and junior Caleb Jansenn (men's javelin – 46.25m). Of the conference qualifiers, Barnett (seventh), Oosterhout (fifth), and McDowell (seventh) all set various program top ten marks in their events, joined by junior Aden Dardis in the men's hammer throw with his 45.17m personal best eclipsing the fifth best throw in school history.

The Corban track & field programs only have one more regular season meet on their 2026 schedule prior to the CCC Championships, which is represented by the OSU High Performance Meet on May 1st and 2nd at the Whyte Track & Field Center on the campus of NCAA DI Oregon State University in Corvallis.
