FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Sending just four wrestlers today to the Boxer Open, the RV Corban Men's Wrestling team still managed to send all four to the podium in an NCAA heavy field and even secured a weight class champion.
Warner Pacific University was the only other NAIA school to send at least one wrestler to the tournament, while the rest of the field was made up of NCAA DI University of Washington and Utah Tech University, NCAA DII Western Washington University, NWAC Clackamas Community College, and multiple NCAA DIII schools that included host Pacific University, Linfield University, and Pacific Lutheran University.
"Proud of our small group for such a solid showing today," Warriors' Interim Head Coach Kary Hadden shared earlier today. "This group continues to show their worth each and every day, and I couldn't be prouder of the men they are becoming!"
Jumping right to the 141-weight class, freshman Brody Piercy advanced to the third place after pinning WWU's Changler Rosalin in 2:48, before ending with a fourth-place finish in his final match of the day.
Brody's brother and fellow teammate, freshman Jordan Piercy, was next up in the 149-weight class, placing second overall after his major decision win over Linfield's Joshue Cox. Two weight classes later, redshirt freshman Lucas Rivera managed to take another fourth-place podium placement in his opening round rematch against Pacific's Spyre Nelson.
The squad ended their short tournament appearance with the highlight of the day, as senior Tyler Moore won three-straight matches, including a 4:31 fall over Linfield's Darrius Walker to earn himself the 197-weight class championship victory.
