Corban Men’s Basketball Sets New Season-High Point Total in Win Over Evergreen State

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University Men's Basketball team (14-7, 10-5) shook off a two-game losing streak in style this evening at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center, handling The Evergreen State College Geoducks (1-16, 1-13) with ease by posting their highest single-game team score of the season in their 110-68 victory.

"Loved our guys' focus and attention to detail today," Warriors' Head Coach Taylor Kelly shared. "They did a great job executing against a team that constantly tries to throw something different at you almost every trip down the court. Our guys handled business, now we are looking forward to hosting Northwest tomorrow night."

Corban scored on the opening possession and never looked back in their runaway victory over Evergreen State, as the Warriors padded the season stat book with a dominate home win that saw five different student-athletes in double-digit scoring.

By the 14:46 mark of the first half, the Navy and Gold had already secured their first double-digit lead, with the lead stretching to as far as 28 points late in the opening period. The Warriors utilized their height advantage in the paint to score with ease in transition, while the diving into the playbook on every other trip down the floor to help the offense find it's rhythm once again.

Two of the Warriors big men and one of their hybrid guards saw the most success against the Geoducks in the first half, as senior forwards Darius Henderson and James Carlson and junior guard Collin Warmouth all had double-digit points at the break, while Warmouth was also dealing in the offensive play calling with four assists.

Meanwhile, Carlson and Henderson were a combined 10-for-13 from the field to score almost half of the Corban points in the first half, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively. They each had four rebounds apiece to this point of the contest as well.

Five minutes into the second half, the Warriors' 25-point lead was now a 40-point lead, as both the starters and reserves were finding plenty of success against the Geoducks at both the defensive and offensive ends of the floor. Carlson and junior guard Andrew Stafford both played a majority of the second half, leading the team in both points and minutes played down the stretch.

The remainder of the contest, the Geoducks and Warriors exchanged runs that led to various double-digit leads for Corban, with the contest coming to a close at 110-68 through the onslaught of offense. The only success that Evergreen State was able to find over Corban was in fastbreak opportunities, outscoring the home squad 10-6 in transition.

However, the Warriors clearly dominated every other facet in this contest, posting more points off turnovers (20-15), more points in the paint (56-34), more second chance points scored (18-4), and a dominating 59 points off the bench compared to just 22 for the Geoducks.

Carlson posted the best game of his Corban collegiate career this evening, finishing with his first double-double while donning the Navy and Gold via a season-high 20 points and 13 rebounds to pace both teams in both scoring and rebounding. Stafford added a season-high 16 points, while Henderson and Warmouth each added 15 points apiece. Warmouth also dished out a season-high six assists in an impressive all-around performance.

Just one Geoduck finished in double-digit scoring for the game, as guard Deondre Russ earned 15 points and three steals in just 18 minutes played. Forward Tyler Williford was the next best performer for Evergreen State, logging nine points and a team-high eight boards in a 33 minute outing.

The Warriors will look to close out the month of January with another home victory tomorrow night, as they'll battle the Eagles of Northwest University (7-13, 4-10) tomorrow night at 5pm PST.
