SALEM, Ore. – A night after getting swept on their home floor, the No. 5-ranked Corban University Volleyball team didn't get hung up in the past and let one bad night set the tone for the weekend, as the Warriors were able to control The College of Idaho with ease for their tenth Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) victory and begin a new win streak on the final day of September.
"I am proud of the team and how they bounced back tonight! We knew we had to move on and come out focused against a well-coached and talented team or else we would find ourselves in difficult situations once again, but our girls were able to remain attentive and focused on our gameplan tonight."
With a bitter taste still in their mouth, the Warriors (16-3, 10-1) needed to find momentum early if they wanted to keep tonight's contest from getting more out of hand than it needed to be and did just that in the beginning of both the first and second sets by establishing themselves in the passing game to utilize all their offensive weapons.
However, tonight's match result wouldn't come without a well-fought bout from the Yotes (10-9, 8-3), who entered the contest upset-minded after handling the Bushnell University Beacons in four-sets late last night. While C of I was able to keep pace with Corban throughout each set, they lacked that extra playmaker to step up and provide the team with a crucial point when they needed it most, as the team reached the twenty-point mark in all three sets but couldn't mind the energy needed to play themselves into a road upset.
Both programs had a handful of opportunities to run the score up and take large leads, with Corban holding the largest lead of the night in the second set at 12-4, yet the Warriors and Yotes wouldn't yield when even their most well-executed plays were stymied by their opponents on the other side of the net. Even a quick glance at tonight's box score will show neither team held much of an advantage, with every team stat total finishing neck-and-neck with each other.
Every single Warrior attacker concluded the evening with a positive kill percentage and at least four kills, the most all-around performance by the Corban program thus far this season. Junior outside hitter Rylee Troutman clocked in and recorded her usual double-digit kill performance by adding twelve more this evening, followed by freshman middle blocker Emma Bischoff and sophomore opposite hitter Makayla Roginski who tallied seven and six kills, respectively.
Sophomore setter Abby Guindy rebounded from a quiet performance last night with a game-high seventeen assists, adding eight digs in the backcourt as well. Defensively for Corban, Bischoff swatted a game-high six blocks with four block assists and two solo stuffs, while junior libero Marissa Uehara tied the game-high mark with 13 digs.
The Yotes were led offensively by outside hitter Haley McUne, who registered eight kills with eight digs for the all-around sophomore performer. Middle blocker Alexa Wheeler provided additional support in the form of seven kills and three block assists, while the setting duo of Analise Hitchcock and Savannah Hutchins split the teams assist totals with 16 and 13 dimes, the latter of which earned the only double-double of the match with 12 digs defensively. Libero Clair Hodge also added 13 digs to tie her counterpart on the other side of the net.
The Warriors will hit the road once again next weekend for a short trip to the Portland area, beginning with Multnomah University (2-9, 2-9) on Friday, October 6th at 7pm PT.
