No. 6 Warriors Sweep Wolves Behind Seventeen Team Service Aces

SALEM, Ore. – The No. 6-ranked Corban University Volleyball served exceptionally better than usual in their three-set sweep of Walla Walla University, as the Warriors dropped 17 team service aces in just three sets this afternoon, a new top five mark for the program in a single match.

"It was a team effort tonight!" Corban head coach Kim McLain exclaimed. We came out with a slow start and realized we needed to focus on the smaller details to execute each play. We look forward to continuing the journey ahead."

A determined and motivated Warrior squad (20-3, 14-1) swapped up their usual starting lineup tonight in order to get creative against the Wolves (1-15, 1-14), with some younger classmen getting an opportunity to stretch their legs and see all fourteen eligible student-athletes get some floor time.

The first and third sets were all business from the Navy and Gold, securing double-digit victories in quick affairs despite the Wolves' best efforts. However, Walla Walla kept their energy high and were able to keep pace with Corban through a majority of the second set, hitting the 20-point mark and falling 25-22 with multiple kills and their only positive kill percentage set of the afternoon.

On the day, the Warriors held the Wolves to a negative attack percentage with six blocks and allowing only 16 kills for the match, ten of which came in the second set alone. Corban outpaced Walla Walla in every statistical category, including a 37-16 assist margin.

Behind over half of those 37 assists was sophomore setter Abby Guindy, who dealt out a game-high 19 dimes and a pair of digs. Guindy was one of eight Warriors to secure a service ace today, where the service experts were led by freshman middle blocker Emma Bischoff who perfectly placed five of said aces. Freshman defensive specialist Kaile'a Ontai was hot on Bischoff's tail with a trio of service aces.

Junior outside hitter Rylee Troutman continues to show why she's the conference leader in kills, adding 15 more this afternoon on a .407 attacking clip. Meanwhile, sophomore opposite hitter Makayla Roginski smashed 11 kills herself as Troutman's counterpart on the right side.

For the Wolves, outside hitters Femke Eising and Gabrielle Faamausili dropped five kills apiece, with outside hitter Natalia Jimenez right behind at three kills. Setter Meherio Krainer earned a team-high ten assists, while defensive specialist Lauren Moody snagged six digs.

The Warriors return to the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center tomorrow night to close out their mini October home stand against Lewis-Clark State College (7-13, 6-9), which is scheduled for a 5pm start time.
