NEW ORLEANS, La. – The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2023 NAIA Cross Country season this past Wednesday, where the captain of the No. 17-ranked Corban University Men's Cross Country program was honored for his incredible season thus far heading into the final race of the season next week.
Graduate student Robert Swoboda was dubbed the NAIA West Region Men's Athlete of the Year in his final season of eligibility following a handful of awards that he has already secured throughout the 2023 regular season. Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.

"What a cool honor for Robert!" Warriors' head coach Todd Bos shared. "He and Coach Eagon have put in a lot of hard work and God has blessed Rob with a great season. We look forward to watching Robert and the men's team represent Corban at the national meet next week."
Yet another honor has been added to Swoboda's trophy case with Wednesday's announcements, as the Ukiah, California native has dominated the west coast in just about every area the sport has to offer. His 23:54.0 personal record in the 8k is one of the top times the NAIA has seen from the vast number of student-athletes this season, as he will enter the 2023 NAIA National Championships with one of the best chances in securing another individual national title.
A three-time Cascade Collegiate Conference Runner of the Week and two-time NAIA National Runner of the Week, Swoboda, his teammates, and the remainder of the men's field is set to kick off the 2023 NAIA National Championships next Friday, November 17th at 11:30am and will be held at the Fort Vancouver National State Park in Vancouver, Washington, just over an hour away from Corban's campus.
