Corban Women’s Basketball Overwhelmed by MSU-Northern, Drop First Contest of 2023-24 Season

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – A sluggish start offensively resulted in a forgettable result for the Corban University Women's Basketball team, as the Warriors shot a lowly 36.5% from the field and under 16% from beyond the three-point line in a neutral site loss to Montana State University-Northern, as the Skylights took control from the opening tip and never turned back in an 82-56 win in Great Falls.

"You go on the road in the non-conference slate to get tested, which is exactly what happened tonight," Warrior's head coach Bill Pilgeram shared. "We let MSUN get off to a good start and found ourselves playing catchup much of the night. I saw some very good things to build on in the second half and we get the opportunity to play again tomorrow against some very good competition."

The Navy and Gold (1-1) dropped their first contest of the 2023-24 season with a checklist of work to do around the court, as the Skylights (2-0) dominated a majority of the game both in the paint, utilizing second chance opportunities, and even had a better overall performance from their bench tonight. The lone silver lining for Coach Pilgeram's squad is they've now outscored their opponents off turnovers in each game to start the season, 13-8 tonight against MSUN, something for Warrior Nation to keep an eye on as the non-conference schedule continues and women's basketball focuses on a defensive approach to each contest.

Senior guard Maddie Godwin led the team offensively with 19 points on 9-for-17 shooting and added a pair of steals, while freshman guard Autumn Agnew continues to impress in her collegiate debut season by scoring 16 points. Junior forward Madison Hodnett scored five points in the paint and posted a game-high seven rebounds.

Montana State-Northern forward Ryley Kehr was the hottest shooter on the court tonight, dropping a game-high 21 points and even hauled in four boards and picked a pair of pockets. As a team, the Skylights shot over 50% from the field to keep a hardworking Corban team looking for answers, resulting in the shootout opportunity that the Warriors didn't want to find themselves in.

The Warriors return to action tomorrow evening in a matchup with the Holiday Inn Classic hosts, No. 24-ranked University of Providence (2-0), who will provide Coach Pilgeram and his program with their first nationally ranked game of the season.
