"To see fourteen of our sixteen programs earn this distinguished award for their efforts last year goes far beyond their efforts on the playing surface and shows exactly what our student-athletes can accomplish," Warriors' Assistant Athletic Director Clayton Messerle shared.
"The success of our student-athletes wouldn't be possible without the faculty and staff at Corban who spend countless hours developing their craft and providing our programs with the opportunities to accomplish their goals. Congratulations to the hundreds of student-athletes that work tirelessly each and every day!" Messerle concluded.
Over 2,200 teams were honored by the NAIA today for earning the merit of academic excellence. In order to qualify for the award, teams must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher over the course of the school year while keeping themselves academically eligible for competition.
Not only did the Corban women's cross country team accumulate the highest GPA of all Warrior sports, but they also tied the College of Idaho program for the highest in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC). Head coach Todd Bos held the next highest GPA of any program as well with his men's long-distance crew posting a 3.74 GPA.
The long list of other Navy and Gold teams to earn 2022-23 Scholar Team status today include: volleyball, women's basketball, men's and women's track & field, beach volleyball, softball, baseball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's golf, and women's lacrosse. Over 60% of Corban student-athletes qualified for the Academic All-Conference requirements last year, thus qualifying the university for President's Cup status and providing the department with a cumulative GPA of 3.34, the fifth highest among eligible CCC schools.
